In the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018, we continued to offer the bioinformatics outreach to approximately 180 students total. We continued with CUREs inmultiple classes and the SURE Applied Bioscience Research Course. Two faculty and two students attended the Fall Student Colloquium in Austin, Texas. We continued with Diana Spencer serving as GKFF Endowed Chair of Research with 60% of her time and 22 summer days devoted to building thecommunity of researchers (faculty and student) and increasing awareness of the High Impact Practice in the classroom. Continued with the InstitutionMembership into CUR with active Biology Councilor Position. Panel Abstract Submitted and Accepted to CUR Biennial with three colleagues from acrossthe nation. CCURI will be highlighted. Presentation with CCURI Colleague, Virginia Balke in Austin, Texas (Fall Colloquium): Taking the Next Step: Skills,Tips and Tricks to Internships, Transfer and Beyond Presentation with CCURI Colleagues: Effective Research Collaborations in the First Two Years ofCollege: Four Case Studies (CUR URPD Meeting in Flagstaff, Arizona). Continued development of Research and Scholarly Activities Learning Communitywith ~ 20 active members. Traveled with 28 attendees to NCUR in Edmond, Oklahoma. We had 15 faculty and 13 students with 10 poster abstractsaccepted and 8 posters presented. Grant Development includes partnership possibilities with two federal grants to serve on advisory boards. GrantFunds secured through OK INBRE SMaRT summer 2017 and 2018 for mentor/mentee research work in molecular biology for 2 students (2017) and 1student (2018) with two mentors. Funds secured through TCC Foundation to facilitate faculty travel to NCUR. Development continues of MariposaTeaching Gardens, Cell Culture Research, Monarch Way Station Development, Fish DNA Barcoding Research, Camera Trapping Research, Several STEMexperimental design units and Interdisciplinary Units.. During the TCC Stayonference, Jim Hewlett, Principal Investigator on the Community CollegeUndergraduate Research Initiative Grant (CCURI), presented as keynote. Other talks that were accepted include the titles: Research as Pedagogy DrivingCultural Shifts (Jim Hewlett): Research at Tulsa Community College: Interdisciplinary Investigations and Tool Development; Undergraduate Research(Diana Spencer, Anne Cross, Mary Phillips, Christine Thompson): Building Success Through Collaborations (Spencer and Hewlett). The TCCStayonference was held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the West Campus of TCC. TCC Honors Research Retreat held in the fall with a minimum of 30participants and multiple panel presentations.
