Chiropractic treatment may help ADHD kids

ADHD is a common behavioural disorder that occurs in children, and has a prevalence ranging from 2.6% to 11.4%. ADHD is characterised by its symptoms of hyperactivity, lack of attention and impulsive behaviours.

A 2010 complementary medicine research review by Alcantara et al examined the chiropractic care of ADHD patients by reviewing retrospective case series. A solo practitioner was used in a private practise of chiropractic. The participating audience consisted of male paediatric patients diagnosed with ADHD, who attended a chiropractic care for a minimum period of five months. Each patient was undergoing chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy combined with additional nutritional supplements.

The responses to the chiropractic care were assessed using a 15-item parent/teacher ADHD questionnaire. When comparing observations repeated on the same patients using a Friedman test, results showed improvements in ADHD symptoms. Moreover, improvements were found in

Ultimately, the findings supported the use of chiropractic therapy for the treatment of children with ADHD. However, more complementary medicine research is encouraged in this area to demonstrate efficacy in more clients..
