Chipola will host a Black History Month Program, Friday, Feb. 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., in the Chipola College Cultural Center. Dinner will be served. The theme for the program is “Celebrating the Life, Legacy and Contributions of African Americans and Charting the Path to Full Liberation.” The guest speaker is Elder Emeritus William McCray. Other speakers include: Salvation Army Victim’s Advocate Lindsey McCrary; Domestic Violence Advocate Felicia Gibson. Performances will include: The Riverside Beaver Chorus; Singer Daniel Marks; Dance routines by the Girls of Pearls and the Omega Lamplighters; and Poetry reading with Barrone Evans. Available The Chipola Foundation Scholarship list for Fall 2016 will be available the first week of March. The McLendon Educational Trust applications for Summer I and Summer II are available online at www.chipola.edu and in the Foundation office. Application deadlines are: Summer I, March 15 and Summer II, May 16. Summer II applications should include Spring 2016 semester grades if student is enrolled in Spring 2016 classes. Chipola Baseball picked to go deep in 2016 TheChipolaIndiansbaseballteamisexpectedtogo deep into the 2016 post-season according to aSeasonPreviewissuedbytheNJCAAonJan.26. Chipola is picked to finish among the top fourteams in Region 8 along with Northwest, PalmBeach and State College of Florida. The Indians are currently ranked third in theFCSAA State Poll behind top-ranked Tallahasseeandsecond-rankedNorthwest. Chipola also has three of the top incoming freshmanintheregion,includingMichaelHickman,acenter-fielderfromKaty,Texas;shortstopJoseCaballerofromthecountryofPanama,andTek’WaanWhytefromStoneMountain,Georgia. TheIndiansfinishedthe2015seasonwitha40-12record.ChipolacapturedasecondstraightPanhandleConferenceChampionshipbywinning12oftheirfinal13leaguegames.Chipolacameupshortinthe2016FCSAAStateTournamentinLakelandgoing1-2inthreegames. Lady Indians headed to State Basketball Tourney The Chipola Lady Indians are headed tothe FCSAA/Region VIII women’s basketballtournament for the fourth straight year under head coach Greg Franklin. GulfCoast(11-1)isthewomen’sconferencechampion. Chipola (9-2) finished second.Tallahassee (4-7) is third. Northwest (3-8) isfourth.Pensacolais(1-10). The Lady Indians will play the SouthernConference Champion, Thursday, March 3,at 5 p.m. CST, in the first round of the statetournament. The brackets are set up for a rematchofChipolavs.GulfCoastifbothteamsadvancetothefinals. TheLadyIndians(22-4)improvedto9-2inleagueplaywithan81-59winoverNorthwestinthefinalhomegamesoftheseason,Feb.16.ChipolaclosesouttheregularseasonFeb.20atPensacola. Chipolascoreda77-67winoverTallahasseeonFeb.13.Chipola(8-2)andGulfCoast(10-1)havebothclinchedberthsfortheFCSAAStateTournamentsetforMarch2-6inOcala.AthirdteamfromthePanhandlealsogetsaberthinthisyear’s tourney.
