We had 5 errors in the first 4 innings. Goes to show, you need to play the “WHOLE GAME” well to win the Day! Next day on Sunday we played our 2 nd game with Stixx. We received the 3 rd seed, Stixx had the 2 nd seed. We played solid ball on Defense and produced enough Offense to take the game! Winning 15 to 12. Two critical offensive keys ensured the Win. We received our 5 runs and Craig’s timely Grand Slam Home Run! We almost beat Stixx without the equalizer, but they hung in there to keep the win under 5 runs. Just a note; we always must strive to beat higher rated teams by more than the “Run Equalizer”; it’s a sweeter victory! Wow! Craig you really tee’d off on that slammer! Last Game, again we make the Championship Game. We play 911. This time we have the hammer, so things are starting off in our favor. 1 st inning 911 gets a nickel, we only score 1, and already we are behind the “8 Ball.” We battle back scoring 9 runs, 2 thru 6 innings and playing solid defense holding 911 to 8 runs; 2 thru 6 innings. Then 911 went Ballistic! They scored 14 runs in the top of the 7 th inning. 911 deserved all the credit for this offensive explosion. We did not commit 1 error; they just hit the Hell out of the Ball. We only managed to score 2 runs in our half of the 7 th ; obviously we did not show a lot of heart. 911 took us down hard. They earned the win because of 1 offensive inning. Congrats to them! OFFENSE As a team we were above our goal of .550 at a BA of .560, but below our OBP adjusted goal of .600 at .581. Our over-all run production was at 65 averaging 13 per game. Our goal is 18 runs per game. This will ensure a Championship in over 90% of the time (at the AA level). Our opponents scored 86 runs DREAMS Both Teams dreamed to win this Tournament, but sometimes Dreams don’t come true. The One Dream that did come true, is we played ball! Weather was Hot, we were Not! But both teams were Competitive in most of our games. We enjoyed playing on very good fields and had a good get together at Tommy’s and Martha’s, including some laughs at Jerry’s expense, celebrating his 60 th “B” Day. 55 GAMES Our 1 st game was against Stixx, a team put together out of the O.C. area. They are a pretty good team, deserving of their AAA rating. Rules dictate they spot us 5 runs, which did not happen. As it turned out, it would not have mattered. Our anemic hitting only provided 7 total runs to their 17 runs. Team BA of this game was barely over .400 at .407. Also, we had a breakdown on defense which hurt our chances of winning. I missed the game, but was informed by several of you; I got a pretty good idea of what happened. We need to kick ourselves in the “Butt” to get going in the 1 st game! Most tournaments we seem to lack focus; this is an area all of us can improve on. Next game, we played against our 60’s Team. We won the day, spotting 5 runs and facing a gallant effort by our older Brothers. Our team BA and OBP were outstanding at .682 and .690 respectively. I noted only 1 error in our scorebook, our Defense was also outstanding. This was a solid complete game. Our 3 rd game was against our AA Rivals 911. We always have a spirited game when playing these guys. This game was no different. 911 has been doing some heavy recruiting and have picked up some good players.

CHINO HILLS – BIG LEAGUE DREAMS

We lost the game 16 to 19, but played well enough to win based on Offense Team BA of .694, but our Defense let us down. We had 5 errors in the first 4 innings. Goes to show, you need to play the “WHOLE GAME” well to win the Day! Next day on Sunday we played our 2nd game with Stixx. We received the 3rd seed, Stixx had the 2nd seed. 1st inning 911 gets a nickel, we only score 1, and already we are behind the “8 Ball.” We battle back scoring 9 runs, 2 thru 6 innings and playing solid defense holding 911 to 8 runs; 2 thru 6 innings. We only managed to score 2 runs in our half of the 7th; obviously we did not show a lot of heart.

Our opponents scored 86 runs

DREAMS Both Teams dreamed to win this Tournament, but sometimes Dreams don’t come true. The One Dream that did come true, is we played ball! Weather was Hot, we were Not! But both teams were Competitive in most of our games. We enjoyed playing on very good fields and had a good get together at Tommy’s and Martha’s, including some laughs at Jerry’s expense, celebrating his 60th “B” Day.

55 GAMES Our 1st game was against Stixx, a team put together out of the O.C. We need to kick ourselves in the “Butt” to get going in the 1st game! Our 3rd game was against our AA Rivals 911. We always have a spirited game when playing these guys. This game was no different. 911 has been doing some heavy recruiting and have picked up

some good players.

So we did not perform to the standards needed to secure the Championship. Still, as always, we had some individuals who performed very well. Tommy led the Team in BA of .889; Mikey was outstanding hitting .750, way to go Mikey! Ed also smashed the ball with a terrific BA of .643 and slugging % of .750 followed closely by Rob who hit a strong .615 and an outstanding OBP of .722. Frit the “Newbie” came through with a solid hitting performance of .579 and Jimmy followed with a .571 BA and .600 OBP; Craiger hit very well at .563 and OBP of .588 AND an Outstanding 1.125 Slugging Percentage, WOW! Ronnie, BA .533 with a .563 OBP continuing his aggressive hitting. Clipper in 2 games hit .500. As you all are now aware, we are doing Slugging Percentages. With encouragement from Ron and help from Rob, we did the first numbers from this tourney. You can see where offensive contributions are impacted by the Slugging Percentage. Prime examples would be Craig, Ed, Jimmy and Ronnie, who led all of us in Slugging, but did not lead in BA or OBP. So we all have more categories to do well in. Congratulations to Craig with his slugging of 1.125 and Ed at .857, also Ronnie and Jimmy at .714. We have made a correction to the On Base Percentage formula. The formula now is: (Hits plus Walks) divided by (Total At Bats). Previously, we subtracted Sacrifice Flys’ from the Total At Bats. Thank you Rob, for clarifying the OBP.

DEFENSE We played well on our defense in 3 of our games. Our games against Stixx and 911 1st games were not as solid as we normally play. During our 2nd game with 911, Ronnie came up with a modified alignment for the outfield. I felt that the adjustment worked very well. The last inning, 911 had a bundle of hits, but we could have had 6 outfielders, and probably we wouldn’t have been able to stop their hitting. They just had the hitting fever. Overall, our Defense was effective; just need to stay focused and mentally sharp! As a point, I was a little too social a couple of times while playing Defense. This was brought to my attention by several Teammates. I appreciate the criticism and felt that it was warranted. I will pay more attention when on the field and curb my visiting in the future.

55 PERSONNEL CHANGES We have had a few changes on our Roster. We welcome Frit in joining our team after his delay from prior commitments. A Git R Done welcome to Frit and Angie to the Git R Done Family. TJ has decided he cannot commit to tournament play at this time, so he has resigned. Bill, who played in the last couple of tournaments, will be on reserve, since our roster is full at present.

55 TOC We have come up short for commitments to play in the Elite TOC. We had 10 Teammates who committed to play and 2 of them offered although they were financially strapped. So, we again will pass. Hopefully we will win another invitation in the future. Time will tell.

60 NEWSLETTER – Gabe

FEW NOTES ON THE CHINO HILLS TOURNAMENT.

1ST

GAME VS 911 FINAL SCORE 8-12. THIS GAME WAS MARKED BY A VERY GOOD DEFENSE LED BY THE PLAY OF “EL SANTO “, RALPH SANTOS. UNFORTUNATELY THE BATS WERE STILL SLEEPING AS THE TEAM BATTED 12 FOR 25 FOR A 480 TEAM AVERAGE, FAR BELOW WHAT THE TEAM IS CAPABLE.

2ND

GAME VS THE DOUBLE NICKEL, GIT-R-DONE FINAL SCORE 13-15. THE TEAM SHOW SIGNS OF BEING READY TO PLAY BY SCORING A BIG FIVE IN THE FIRST INNING AND GIVING THE YOUNGSTERS A FEEL THAT THEY WERE GOING TO BE IN A TOUGH GAME. THIS FIRST INNING PROVE TO BE THE BEST OFFENSIVE INNING OF THE TOURNAMENT. THE 55’ CAME BACK AT US AND SCORED 5 RUNS IN EACH OF THE FIRST AND SECOND INNINGS. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME THE TEAM SUPPORTED THE PITCHING OF “ MR. GENE “ BY PLAYING GOOD DEFENSE AND NOT ALLOWING ANY RUNS SCORE IN THE 3

RD AND FOURTH INNINGS.

3RD

GAME VS STIXS FINAL SCORE 11-18

THE GAME WAS PLAYED AGAINST DIFFERENT FACES BUT THE RESULTS WERE THE SAME, THE LACK OF OFFENSE CONTINUES, AS THE TEAM BATTED 12 FOR 29 FOR A TEAM AVERAGE OF 414.THE TEAM PRODUCE ONLY SIX RUNS. (FIVE WAS GIVEN).

4TH

GAME VS 911 FINAL SCORE 8-24. THIS MEANS THAT AS A TEAM WE PRODUCE ONLY THREE RUNS.

5TH

GAME VS STIXS FINAL SCORE 15-21

IN THIS GAME WE PRODUCE 10 RUNS WHICH WAS THE TEAM HIGHEST FOR THE TWO DAYS HOWEVER THE DEFENSE LED BY YOURS TRULY COULD NOT MAKE THE PLAYS AND WE MAKE 6 PLUS ERROR DURING THE GAME.

THERE ARE MANY THINGS OR IDEAS THAT EACH ONE OF US HAVE AND WOULD WANT TO CHANGE, FOR EXAMPLE: PLAYERS ROTATION, BATTING ORDER, WHO TO PITCH ETC…. GENTLEMEN WE HAVE TO MAKE ONE CHANGE FIRST AND FOREMOST. WE HAVE TO HIT AND HIT BETTER AND WITH MORE CONSISTENTLY. WE HIT INTO TOO MANY DOUBLE

PLAYS WHICH KILLS THE POTENTIAL PRODUCTIVE INNINGS. GRANTED WE PLAYED AGAINST HIGHER CLASS AND YOUNGER TEAMS, BUT WHEN THE TEAM GETS CREDIT FOR 55 RUNS IN FIVE GAMES AND 25 ARE GIVEN TO THE TEAM THAT MEANS THAT WE PRODUCED ONLY 30 OR 6 PER GAME. THIS IS NOT GOING TO GIT R DONE.

THE TOP HITTERS FOR THE WEEKEND WERE: BOBBY WITH AN OUTSTANDING 12-14 FOR 857 AVG GREAT JOB RALPH A VERY FINE 8-14 FOR 571 AVG. GABE 7-13 FOR 539 AVG. DAVE GREGORY 7-14 FOR 500 AVG. JOHN (ALMOST A HOME RUN) 7-14 FOR 500 AVG

COUPLE OF CLOSING NOTES:

1. SOME OF THE TEAM’S MEMBER EFFORTS SOME TIMES GO UN-NOTICE, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE EFFORT OF BILL WILKINS, WHOM PLACED HIS INJURY FAR BELOW THE TEAMS POTENTIAL NEEDS AND SHOWED UP FOR THE SUNDAY’S GAMES, JUST IN CASE THE TEAM NEEDED A PLAYER TO CONTINUE THE GAMES. BILL THANK YOU (WE COULD HAVE USED YOUR BAT).

2. THE TEAM IS ALREADY SCHEDULE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SEPTEMBER 11 AND 12 EVENTS IN HEMET. TIMES AND DIRECTIONS WILL FOLLOW AS I GET THEM.

3. PLEASE MAKE A CHANGE OF MY NEW E-MAIL ACCOUNT [email protected]

THE GAME OF SOFTBALL IS A GAME FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES, A GAME THAT GIVES ALL OF US THAT LOVE AND PLAY THE GAME THE OPPORTUNITY TO FORGET REALITY OF LIFE ONE HOUR AT A TIME. A GAME THAT MUST HAVE BEEN INVENTED BY THE CATHOLICS, AS THE ERRORS AND BAD AT BATS RECEIVE ABSOLUTION THE MOMENT IT’S OVER AND GIVES THE CHANCE TO DO BETTER THE NEXT TIME. YOUNG KIDS DREAM OF GROWING UP TO PLAY BALL. MEN OUR AGE DREAM OF BEING YOUNG AGAIN TO PLAY BALL. WE TREASURE EACH GAME AS WE KNOW THAT HEALTH MAY BECOME THE ENEMY THAT TAKES THE GAME FROM US.

IF THIS IS TRUE I PLEDGE TO MY TEAM GIT R DONE THAT I WILL PLAY EACH FUTURE GAME WITH GUSTO AND MOTIVATION, AS THERE IS NO BETTER MOMENT THAN

“THE PRESENT”. THE PAST IS A CANCELLED CHECK. THE FUTURE IS A PROMISSARY NOTE WITH A

VARIABLE INTEREST RATE (UNSURE OF ITS VALUE. THE PRESENT IS CASH, SO LETS SPEND IT WISELY.

65 NEWSLETTER – Gene - Notes from Jerry

A few notables: BILL hit 2 HOMERS & had 5 RBI's in the 3rd.

Game. CAZ made several outstanding catches in the

outfield & threw a runner out at 3rd, on a great throw. Almost did it twice.

Bill injured his back in the 3rd. Game & couldn't play anymore. We missed him later.

FOURTH game several were hurting, Neil's back was acting up badly. Bob Silvola pulled a GROIN muscle & came out defensively. Bill didn't play. Caz was just beat as was I with my right leg.

We were scheduled for the CHAMPIONSHIP Game & had 6 guys that could play......

Had to cancel, Gary was leaving, Bill was out, Bob was out, Caz

was out, that left 7 & the outfield was terrible with the ASTRO TURF heat. More guys would have been injured & I just didn't think it was worth it to hurt more guys. Most of the other teams had 13/14 players.

Most all had a pretty good tournament performance wise. George G. finally started hitting in the last game. Joe as usual was a help. It hurt losing Bill & his bat. Tried to balance the line-up as we were running for everyone...........

Note from Tommy D: Congratulations on a good tourney. The team is coming along, but we obviously need to recruit and bring more players out, so in the future we can close out the tournament.

CRUISE TIME We are planning our 2nd Git R Done Cruise. We did this a few years back and had a great time! So it’s time to “Git” you Cruisers Together again and Sail Away! As you all received a short announcement regarding the cruise, Martha and I await your answers. Do you want to go? Where do you want to go? We are pushing for your decision by end of September. As I write this, I already have 3 positives and 1 maybe. A good start. The dates and costs will be determined by the destination ya’ll select. Get your answers in! I will have some brochures at the next tournament.

COMING TOURNAMENTS As we continue with Southern California Dog Days of Summer, we review our scheduled tournaments. 9/11 and 9/12 SCSSA Q all teams invited. We play at the new Diamond Valley Park Softball Facility in Hemet. We need to have a good showing. This tournament will be the last Q and a great tourney to practice for the Worlds Series. 9/25 & 9/26 ASA Morro Bay, we are set to go. Roster has been set with a Blend of each age group. This is an optional tourney if anyone wants to be added, they can be put on a waiting list in case someone on the roster cancels. Call Tommy (909) 628-6993. 10/14 – 10/17 60’s World Series 10/18 – 10/21 65’s World Series 10/21 – 10/24 55’s World Series *Note: 1st day of each age bracket is arrival date, not playing date. If there are other possible tourneys each of you will be advised by your manager.

SPECIAL NOTE – HEMET Hemet will likely be VERY HOT! Please hydrate yourselves a couple of days prior to playing. Bring plenty of water, Gatorade, etc. Bring wet towels. This is a new facility, there are NO TREES that can provide enough shade (trees are small). Ladies and other fans should bring Umbrellas. Also, if you have easy ups, you might consider bringing them.
