CHILE | JUNE 1-12, 2020 CHILE TODAY: CULTURE, ARTS, AND EDUCATION MODULAR SESSION 1 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION This module studies from theoretical perspectives and practical experience, the current situation and horizons of the triad of Culture, Arts, and Education in Chile. The program explores in an interdisciplinary way a society of extensive demands for modernization and equality in the cultural and educational spheres, having as a frame of reference the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, in which point 4 calls for "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Central aspects of this session focus on the native and European identities -together with those of other geographical sources- that make up present-day Chile, with special emphasis on their languages and on the integrating capacity of their arts of words, visuals and space. Complementarily, the module explores the political and socio-cultural challenges of democracy associated with human rights in its priority demand for the education of Chilean children and young people. This challenge of Education is observed preferably from the dialogue of Arts and Sciences, as well as from the urban and environmental surroundings in the present and future life of the new generations.
