CHILEChile is a long thin sliver of land on the West Coast of South America. It shares a border with Argentina, Bolivia and Peru and faces out to the Pacific Ocean. It is approximately 3,000 miles long and never more than 220 miles wide. It’s mainly of Mediterranean climate with rains concentrated in winter and spring, and a long dry season through autumn.Chile’s geographic position gives rise to unique and diverse geology that has made it renowned for wine production. The Atacama Desert to the north, the Andes Mountains to the east, the Patagonian ice fields to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west make Chile a veritable agricultural island. Together they help maintain healthy conditions and protect vineyards against pests and disease.*The Chilean landscape also offers a vast mosaic of terroirs and soil types. Soils are healthy, well-drained, and have a variety of origins (alluvial, col-luvial, fluvial, etc.) and textures (loam, clay, sand, silt). The interaction between the effects of the sea and those of the Andes result in a growing season that revels in bright sunny days and temperatures that take a dramatic dip each night to create the broad daily temperature oscillation that wine grapes need to develop fresh fruit flavors, crisp acidity, and in the case of red wines, ripe tannins, deep color, and high levels of antioxidants and flavonols.*

CHILEAN WINE LAWS• D.O. (Denomination of Origin) defines regions, sub-regions, zones and areas and only establishes the grapes’ origin. • Only approved grape varieties may be planted. Hybrid grapes are strictly forbidden. • 75% of wine must be from geographic area when using a denomination of origin. • Estate bottled may only be used when the winery and vineyards are located in the same geographic area within the D.O. • D.O. wines may use the terms Gran Reserva, Gran Vino, Reserva, Reserva Especial, Reserva Privada, Seleccion and Superior. These words do not have a specific definition and may be used with a different meaning in each winery.

WINE FACTS• The main wine regions of Chile follow the valleys of rivers running down from the Andes to the Pa-cific Ocean, transecting the 625 mile Central Valley • Grapes originally planted by the Conquistadors • Phylloxera – free• Some of the largest organic vineyards in the world• Chile’s premium wine growing regions are located between the 30 & 40 latitudes (Napa Valley is 36)• Soils differentiate between appellations and range from sea sand to volcanic rock• Rated among the finest in the world

OVERVIEW

Chile’s premier wine producer is a global ambassador for world-class Chilean wines and the benchmark by which others are judged. Founded in 1883, Concha y Toro was the first Chilean producer to introduce fine wines made from French grape varieties. Today, Concha y Toro spans over a dozen estates located throughout the premier wine regions of Chile.

From the beginning, Concha y Toro has led the way in pioneering innovations designed to enhance the overall quality and worldwide respect enjoyed by Chilean fine wines. Throughout, consistent emphasis has been placed on identifying optimum growing locations for each grape variety. Concha y Toro’s found-ers were the first to identify and champion the star potential of Chile’s individual wine regions and unique terroirs.

Quality-oriented initiatives include harvesting fruit block by block, rather than bundling them together. Though costly, it enables the winemaker to determine exactly how to manage each parcel of land. Such attention to detail and quality has come to be expected from Concha y Toro, a producer with triple honors as the leading name in world-class Chilean wines, one of the world’s pre-eminent fine wine producers and South America’s largest wine exporter.

THREE KEY SELLING POINTS:1. Sourced from the premier vineyard locations throughout Chile. Each vineyard and block of fruit is celebrated for its diversity of soil type and unique ripening micro climate.

2. Artisan Winemakers with impeccable world- wide reputation and achievements, producing what many consider among the best expressions of the grape variety in their country of origin.

3. Consistent 90+ scores from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Robert Parker and Wine & Spirits Magazine.

DON MELCHOR

Don Melchor represents Chile’s first ever “Icon” red wine. This signature Cabernet Sauvignon from the Puente Alto vineyard in Chile’s Maipo Valley enjoys an unparalleled record for demonstrating Chile’s ability to create an exquisite world-class wine.

Don Melchor’s origins date back to 1986, when Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, president of Concha y Toro at the time, had a flash of inspiration that would set new precedents and forever raise the bar for Chilean winemaking. The Concha y Toro winemaking team traveled to Bordeaux, France to visit the father of modern winemaking, Professor Emile Peynaud and present to him samples of Cabernet Sauvignon from the then little-known Puente Alto vineyard. Peynaud was impressed and considered the samples to demonstrate extraordinary potential, exhibiting distinct characteristics of a unique terroir.

Rafael Guilisasti’s 1986 pilgrimage to Bordeaux mirrored an earlier voyage to France, made a century earlier by Concha y Toro founder, Don Melchor. An eminent Chilean statesman, Don Melchor de Concha y Toro was convinced that Chile’s winemaking potential could provide his nation with a vital platform from which to compete in the international marketplace. Don Melchor returned home with the first samples of French rootstock brought from Bordeaux. Don Melchor’s visit thus simultaneously brought about the birth to the modern Chilean wine industry and Concha y Toro, which remains to this day Chile’s leading wine producer and the county’s foremost name in world-class wines.

CARMÍN DE PEUMO

Carmín de Peumo, which is produced only in exceptional harvests, makes a powerful argument on behalf of the world-class potential of Chilean Carmenere.

Carmín de Peumo is sourced from specific blocks of 25-year-old Carmenere vines in the Peumo district of Chile’s Cachapoal Valley, between the wine regions of Maipo and Colchagua. Location is critical for produc-tion of top quality Carmenere, a thin-skinned grape variety sensitive to extreme heat, but which nevertheless requires an extended growing season in order for fruit to reach optimal ripeness. Warmer than Maipo in the daytime and cooler than Colchagua all round, Peumo is considered the cradle of Chile’s finest Carmenere.

FEATURES

• Very limited production; made only in the finest vintages.

• From a single block of 25-year-old Carmenere vines in the Peumo district of Chile’s Rapel Valley, between Maipo and Colchagua.

• The cradle of Chile’s finest Carmenere, Peumo is warmer than Maipo in daytime and cooler than Colchagua all round.

• Ideal location for top quality Carmenere, a thin- skinned variety sensitive to heat, yet requiring an extended growing season in order for fruit to reach optimal ripeness.

• Carmín de Peumo Carmenere is rounded out by small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

• Aged in 100% new oak barrels. Barrel aging varies from 15 to 20 months, depending on vintage.

• Made by Ignacio Recabarren, the senior statesmen of modern-day Chilean winemaking. Named Winemaker of the Decade by Guía de Vinos de Chile in 2002.

• A relentless perfectionist, Recabarren has made it his life’s work to prove that Chile can produce outstanding wines able to stand alongside the best the world has to offer.

• A powerful argument on behalf of the world- class potential of Chilean Carmenere.

• Recognized with numerous accolades from top wine critics worldwide since release of the debut 2003 vintage.

AMELIA

At its debut in the mid-1990s, Amelia Chardonnay marked a major new milestone in Chilean winemaking: the arrival of Chile’s first ever ultra-premium Icon Chardonnay. This elegant, distinctive Chardonnay originates from Concha y Toro’s prized estate-vineyards in Chile’s Casablanca Valley, a region responsible for some of the country’s finest white wines due to the beneficial influence of cooling maritime breezes from the nearby Pacific Ocean, as well as an ideal soil composition of clay and limestone over a substrata of granite.

Soon after its debut, Amelia became the first ever Casablanca Chardonnay to earn a Wine Spectator 90-point rating. Burgundian in style, yet modern and fruit driven, Amelia Chardonnay also enjoys a notable capacity for aging, developing depth, nuance and added complexity over time.

FEATURES

• Chile’s first ultra-premium Icon Chardonnay.

• Named for Doña Amelia, spouse of Don Melchor, this is the white wine counterpart of Chile’s most iconic red.

• Through the 2009 vintage, grapes were harvested from the prized El Triángulo vineyard in Chile’s Casablanca Valley, a region responsible for some of the country’s finest white wines thanks to a Mediterranean-like climate and cooling maritime breezes from the nearby Pacific.

• Beginning with the 2010 vintage, Amelia has been made from grapes harvested from the Las Petras Vineyard, one of Concha y Toro’s newest and most exciting acquisitions.

• The Las Petras vineyard was planted in 1999 with a southeastern orientation and is characterized by cloudy mornings and cold days with abundant wind, which means the grapes ripen slowly and late in the season.

• The soils are red clay, and fertility is low in the highest sector, moderate in the mid-section, and good in the lower part of the vineyard, resulting in low yields of high quality Chardonnay grapes that produce concentrated wines.

• Produced by Ignacio Recabarren, one of the first to recognize Casablanca’s star potential.

• A relentless perfectionist, Recabarren has made it his life’s work to prove that Chile can produce outstanding wines able to stand alongside the best the world has to offer.

BENEFITS

• The first Casablanca Chardonnay to earn a Wine Spectator 90-point rating.

• Enjoys a notable capacity for aging, developing depth, nuance and added complexity over time.

• A stellar white wine, tailor-made for fine dining. A natural for wine lists at contemporary and top Latin restaurants and a competitive New World alternative to more costly and fragile white Burgundies.

CYT LATE HARVEST

Concha y Toro Late Harvest represents the winery’s passion and commitment to showcasing the high quality and variety of wine styles that Chilean terroir can produce. Concha y Toro Late Harvest was launched in 1991, with the 1988 vintage.

The grapes for this exquisite dessert wine are hand hand-picked from the Lourdes Vineyard, which is ideally located in the Maule Valley in close proximity to the Claro River. The unique microclimate, cre-ated by the river’s influence, of foggy mornings and bright, sunny days is perfect for the development of the “noble rot” botrytis cinerea.

Exclusively available in half bottles, this wonderful wine complements the wide range of Concha y Toro wines and offers wine lovers the chance to enjoy a Concha y Toro wine with every course from appetizer to dessert.

FEATURES

• A rare gem – a dessert white wine from Chile.

• From the small and highly prized Lourdes Vineyard in Chile’s Maule Valley.

• Primarily Sauvignon Blanc, blended with small amounts of Riesling and Gewurztraminer.

• Produced from a blend of partially botrytized grapes and grapes left to ripen on the vine – hence “late harvest.”

• Produced by Maule Valley expert, winemaker Héctor Urzúa.

BENEFITS

• America talks dry – but loves to drink sweet!

• A versatile pairing with a wide range of fare, from foie gras to fruit salad.

• Something a little different to pair with a platter of cheeses, dried fruits and nuts.

• A welcome addition to wine lists at contemporary and stylish Latin restaurants.

TASTING NOTES

CyT Late Harvest: Mature fruit aromas, such as pear, melon, and apricot. On the palate, the wine is soft and fruit-forward with notes of honey. Concha y Toro Late Harvest is a great accompaniment to traditional sweet desserts such as cheese cake, key lime pie, or fruit tart, as well as strong, ripe cheeses.
