The Sun receives all the credit for making plants grow and heating the land,

but the people who deserve the praise and recognition are the Sun’s children, the sky kids.

Page 4: Child's Story

Of all the gods, Sun was the fattest and laziest because the earthlings offered him many sacrifices to eat. Every morning the sky kids were forced to pull their father out of bed, or else he would have slept all day.

Loc, The Sun’s oldest child, was tired of this. He brooded to himself, Why should we work so hard just so the earthlings can have sunlight? It’s not like they’ve ever done anything for me.

So the next morning Loc refused to assist his siblings in pulling their father out of bed. The others could manage to do it without him, but it was much more difficult.

When the other hard- working children saw what a good time Loc was having….

and exploring the uninhabited parts of earth…

They decided to stop pulling the Sun out of bed too. The Sun, unaware of this, slept all day and all night for a year.

People on earth were petrified. It was night all day long. As a result, all their crops died.

Eventually, most of the earthlings died from starvation. Since there was hardly any food, the people were unable to sacrifice to the sun god anymore.

This made the sun hungry. He woke up from his long slumber famished and thin. He screamed for Loc to come to him.

“Why did you not wake me

up?” roared the Sun!

“W-w-we got tired of working,”

stammered Loc.

“How are we supposed to eat without the offerings of our people? You must think about others besides yourself,” yelled the Sun.

Loc and his siblings were ashamed of themselves because they had not realized how much they depended on the earthlings, and how close they were to killing them all. To this day they have never let the Sun sleep in again.
