Standard: These activities support Library/Information Literacy Content Standard E1: “A student should understand ethical, legal, and social behavior with respect to information resources. A student who meets the content standard should use library materials and information resources responsibly.” School board policy 6161.4(f) Notes “Effective July 1, 2012, the Children’s Internet Protection Act requires that a school district’s Internet safety policy provide for educating students about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking web sites and in chat rooms as well as cyberbullying awareness and response.” This shall be “age-appropriate instruction” so: to meet the district’s adopted complete the following 4 activities with ALL students 1. Topic: Safety and Privacy (Online Safety)

o Print the activities page from the link below (1 per student). o View video clip: BrainPOP: Online Safety

o Discuss the scenarios and options that are safe and unsafe. o Students complete the activity and take paper home.

4. Review the NWABSD’s Acceptable Use Agreement o Optional: Print the “Northwest Arctic Borough School District Acceptable Use Policy for

District Students (Grades 4-12)” (1 per student). o Project the attached document “Northwest Arctic Borough School District Acceptable Use

Policy for District Students (Grades 4-12)” on your whiteboard. o Read through document with students teaching pertinent vocabulary and explaining as

needed. o Optional: Have students underline, circle, and box words as you discuss this document. o Make the activity as interactive and relevant as possible in ways appropriate for the ages

of your students o NOTE: This page was completed as part of the student registration packet so it does NOT

have to go home. Only new and re-enrolling students got a copy this year so you may send it home if you wish.

Make sure absent students receive the information.

Once you have completed these activities with all students including those who missed large group instruction, complete the attached Teacher Verification Document (first page of this document) and submit it to your principal (keep a copy for yourself).
