Activity 2: Picnic Menu
As the sun returns to warm our skies, many people like to head back outside to enjoy a picnic. Think about your favourite picnic foods and design a menu below for a full, three course meal for you and your friends. Remember to have foods from all the five food groups, and also make a list of the utensils and other equipment you might need to make your picnic a success!

Activity 3: Design Your Perfect School You’re now three-quarters of the way through your school year – congratulations! In that time you have probably become very familiar with your school and you might even have some ideas on how to improve it. In the space below, we would like you to design your ideal school. It could be based on your current school or something completely knew. We need you to draw it from a birds-eye view, and make sure every building or space is properly labelled.

Activity 6: Pine Cone Bird Feeder As spring kicks off, we can expect to see more and more bird life in our local environment. One great way to attract birds to your garden is to prepare a special treat for them to snack on! You will need…
One Pine Cone
Vegetable Shortening (e.g. Copha)
Birdseed
Spreading Knife
Large bowl
String
Scissors
Newspaper (to protect your work surface)
What to do…
1. Find a pine cone outside. If you really struggle to find one, you may be able to purchase one from
a craft shop.
2. If the pine cone is still closed up, ask an adult to put it in an oven for 10 minutes at 150°C. This
should allow the pine cone to “bloom.”
3. Wait for the pine cone to cool before handling.
4. Securely attach a 30cm piece of string to your pine cone.
5. Use the spreading knife to spread the shortening throughout the pine cone. Try to cover as much
of the cone as possible (including all the cracks and crevices) so that you can hold lots of seeds.
6. Pour the birdseed into the bowl.
7. Dip the pine cone into the seeds so that they stick to the shortening.
8. Allow to dry for 20 minutes.
9. Find a spot outside, and tie your pine cone there so that the birds can eat from it.

Activity 7: Spring Cleaning You would have heard of the expression ‘spring cleaning’ – an expression that stems from times when houses were heated by wood fires and people needed to clear out the soot and grime which accumulated inside over the winter months. For this activity, think of three items which you currently own that you could ‘spring clean’ out of your life. For each item, write at least three sentences on why you think it is no longer needed.

Activity 8: Petal Mosaic
When people think about spring, one of the first things that pop into their minds are the different colours produced by the flowers that suddenly bloom. Look in your garden or your local park and pick some petals from different flowers. Use this petals to create a mosaic design in the space below. Look online for inspiration if you’re unsure of what to include in your design.

Activity 9: Grand Final Pom Poms Sport is a big part of many Australian’s lives, and spring coincides with an exciting time of year – finals! Follow the instructions below to create pom poms in your favourite team’s colours! You will need…
Cardboard (e.g. cereal box)
Scissors (only use under parental supervision)
Yarn (in the colours of your favourite sports team)
What to do… 1. Take a large piece of cardboard and cut out two circles of the
same size. Both should be approximately 6 cm in diameter.
2. Cut a smaller circle out of each of the two circles. You should
be left with a ring approximately 2cm wide. Make a small slit in
the circles that is wide enough for you to pass your yarn
through.
3. Line up the two rings on top of each other. Using a colour of your favourite team, start wrapping yarn
around both rings. Keep wrapping the yarn until you cannot see the cardboard. Once the first layer is
complete, do the same with the other colours of your favourite team. You can add as many layers as you
would like.
4. Under adult supervision, use a pair of scissors to cut through the yarn around the edge of your rings.
5. Take an approximately 30cm piece of yarn, and wrap it
carefully between the two cardboard rings. Tie it in a tight,
secure knot – this will hold your pom pom together!
6. Carefully remove your rings, then have an adult help you trim
the edges of your pom pom so it is a neat sphere.
7. You’re done!

Activity 10: My Favourite Season
IS
MY FAVOURITE SEASON
Everyone has a season which they like for a number of different reasons, but how many of us could communicate that to someone who couldn’t hear? Write your favourite season in the empty box, use your research skills to learn how to say the words in Australian Sign Language, then paste a photo of you ‘signing’ in the spaces below
