Aims and Learning Outcomes
This half day course is recommended for school staff who have had no previous Language and Communication training.
It aims to provide participants with: • An introduction to language development from birth throughout childhood. • An understanding of the different components of language and how these are interdependent. • An understanding of further training provided by Language and Communication Service and
assist with planning the most appropriate training plan for individual settings. There will also be opportunities to engage in practical workshop activities, exploring strategies and resources to support language development within the classroom.

working with a multi-sensory approach such as Numicon can help children with SEN meet these challenges.
• To appreciate the essential building blocks that underpin key mathematical concepts. • To consider how to start working with a multi-sensory approach such as Numicon with children
with Down syndrome. • To use the Numicon shapes and other practical resources successfully in the classroom. • To explore the benefits of using Numicon with children with Down syndrome to teach key
mathematical areas including rote counting, one to one correspondence, simple addition/subtraction, decomposition, multiplication, division and introducing money.

This is a broad training course designed to touch on a number of relevant areas, ranging from the impact on neural processes, the permanency of online participation, social media and self-esteem, new risks to young people and the impact on social interaction skills and relationships. Aim and Learning Outcomes
Getting Ready to Learn provides support for DE funded pre-school settings to help them develop parents’ confidence and skills to ensure their children grow up happy, healthy and achieve to their full-potential. Settings are encouraged to hold information sessions, workshops and stay and play sessions to give parents the knowledge and tools to create positive home learning environments. Support is provided through a central team, a dedicated website and on-going clusters/ workshops to explore themes and approaches to delivery of messages. All DE funded pre-school settings are encouraged to participate.

apply relevant child protection legislation, policies and procedures to their day to day practice. OBJECTIVES: Day 1 • Become familiar with the principles, legislation policies and guidance underpinning
safeguarding and the relationship between safeguarding and child protection. • Recognise the signs and symptoms of physical, sexual, emotional abuse, neglect and
