Good Beginnings:
Professional Development for Family Child Care Providers
The Good Beginnings: Professional Development for Family Child Care Providers is divided into 12 lessons, for a total of 30 hours of training. The course will introduce you to:
Child Care Choices Exploring Children's Development
Guiding Children's Behavior Promoting Good Health
Planning for Safety and Emergencies Preventing Child Abuse
Nutrition Developing Partnerships Managing the Business
Providing an Enriching Family Environment Caring for the Child Care Provider
Children's Experiences The Good Beginnings Course will not only help you explore these areas of Family Child Care, but will also guide you to create the policies and procedures necessary to develop your business, introduce you to a network of Family Child Care Providers, and provide you with resources and contacts specific to your family child care business.
CCRR is currently providing this training by correspondence the cost is $125.00 per participant. For more information please call the CCRR office at 250-785-5701.
Membership Renewal 2012/2013
Just a reminder that the CCRR memberships are due for renewal and
need to be completed by September 4th 2012.
This membership provides benefits such as access to our toy lending
library, bi-monthly newsletter, consultation & support,
networking opportunities, training & workshops, as well as
access to laminating and photocopying.
Please note that all staff that are wanting to have access to the toy
lending library need to be listed on the membership form.

Early Childhood Resource Library & Boardmaker
If you need to do theme planning or need information on health or child
development come use our Early Childhood Resource Library.
CCRR also has the Boardmaker program in our resources which can be accessed on our laptop. Boardmaker is a tool that allows for creation of symbol-based
communication displays, visual supports and curriculum materials. Please phone ahead to book a time to ensure staff are available to assist
you. Please note that photocopying and laminating fees will apply when copying or
laminating.
Toy Lending Update
You can view the lending library on our website at www.childcarechoices.ca.
Please phone before coming to borrow to ensure a staff is
able to assist you.
Please note CCRR office hours and closures dates
for borrowing and returning toys for the month of July & August
As per lending library agreement please remember to ensure
that all items are cleaned (including bin) and
inventory lists are checked before returning items. Thank-you!

Shell Monsters
Need: Shells, glue,
tempera paint, paint
brushes, newspaper
Directions: Spread the
newspaper out on a
table. Glue shells
together to form
monsters or other
creatures. Let glue dry
then paint creatures.
ICE CREAM IN A BAG
What you'll need:
How to make it:
1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
3. Place the small bag inside the large one and seal again carefully.
4. Shake until mixture is ice cream, about 5 minutes.
Wipe off top of small bag, then open carefully and enjoy!
Tips:
To make a larger amount, try doubling the recipe. Anything larger might be too big
for kids
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup milk or half & half
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
6 tablespoons rock salt
1 pint-size Ziploc plastic bag
1 gallon-size Ziploc plastic bag
Ice cubes
Sand Dough Recipe
1 part white glue
2 parts flour
2 parts sand
2 parts water
Mix together to create a dough. You may
need to add water or flour depending on
the consistency.
Frozen Fish-Popsicles
Freeze the jello in
popsicle molds,
add the gummy
fish when they
are partially set.
Unmold very
gently when
entirely frozen. These
are really messy to eat
and are best eaten
outside.
