I would like to congratulate you on the advent of the New Year entreating Allah, the Almighty, to make it good year for the oil sector and help us proceed steadily to achieve the objectives and ambitions of KPC and its subsidiaries. I entreat Allah to make security, stability and peace overwhelm our beloved Kuwait under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and his Crown Prince.As we receive 2013, I look at the future trustfully believing in the capabilities and efficiency of the Kuwaiti oil sector’s personnel who can confront and manage proficiently the huge challenges which they may face in the phase of underpinning the status of KPC internationally through improving the level of the Kuwaiti oil industry as per the international criteria allotted in this domain. Add to this is the sublime goal of increasing productivity up to 4 million bpd.Undoubtedly, achieving such goal urges each individual belongs to this vital sector, which is considered the key support of the Kuwaiti economy, to believe in his capabilities and skills to harness them in fulfilling the sector’s ambitions. Moreover, the spirit of one team and self-denial are key constituents which each employee should have to reach integration in performance. These two elements are our resource of power and the motive which enables us to achieve extraordinary results that we seek to accomplish for the oil sector and the State of Kuwait.

His Excellency Eng. Hani Abdulaziz Hussein, Minister of Oil and Chairman of KPC’s board of directors, received HE Mr. Amos Hushtine, Assistant Deputy Minister for US Energy Resources System, and HE Mr. Mathew Tauller, US ambassador to Kuwait, along with the accompanying delegation on Thursday December 6, 2012 in his office at the headquarters of the oil sector. The two sides tackled the new developments taking place in the international oil markets and the ways of underpin-ning the bilateral relations between the two countries.In the same context, Hussein received HE Nada Yafi, French ambassador to Kuwait, and the accompanying del-egation on Sunday morning December 9, 2012 in his of-fice. They tackled issues of mutual concern.

Under the patronage of HE the Minister of Oil, Chairman of KPC’s board of directors, the activities of the 16th Ca-reer Opportunities Exhibition were inaugurated on 27-29 November, 2012 in Kuwait University.The exhibition is aimed to bolster communication be-tween the students and the public and private sectors to provide them consequently with a chance for direct re-cruitment.

Several officials and a large number of students along with Dr. Hassan Al-Khayat, Dean of Faculty of Engineer-ing and Petroleum, assistant deans and heads of depart-ments attended the exhibition.It is worth mentioning that the exhibition is held annu-ally to let youths be acquainted with the job opportunities available in the most important companies, institutions, KPC and its subsidiaries.

This matter requires preserving necessar-ily the health and safety of personnel to improve their skills, efficiency and performance at work.Meanwhile, Mr. Hussein Ismail, Man-aging Director and Chairman of KPI’s board of directors, said this campaign is considered one of the most promi-nent activities which KPI is keen on partaking in as personnel’s health is one of the major priorities which KPC

and its subsidiaries undertake. It is noteworthy that the campaign included health lectures, sports com-

petitions and walkathon in which a number of nutrition specialists and physicians took part.

Under the patronage of HE Eng. Hani Abdulaziz Hussein, Oil Minister and Chairman of KPC’s board of directors, the Chief Executive Officer of KPC Mr. Farouq Al-Zanki in-augurated Kuwait International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (KIPCE) which was organized by Society of Petroleum Engineers in collaboration with Kuwait Univer-sity and under the patronage of KPC on 10-12 December, 2012 in Mangaf Hilton Resort.Addressing the conferees, Al-Zanki said, “No need to mod-ify the rates of oil production in the current time as the international rates of supply and demand are stable. How-ever, this issue will be tackled in the coming meeting of the producing countries.”On KPC’s participation in the exhibition that was orga-nized on the sideline of the conference, Al-Zanki indicated KPC is keen on partaking in the territorial and international activities related to oil and gas to exchange experiences with the huge oil companies particularly in the field of pro-duction and drilling technology. He added the Kuwaiti oil sector confronts several challenges to achieve KPC 2030 strategy which gives special concern to the national person-nel and the experience it gains from the foreign companies

which are collaborating with it in its vital projects among which the projects of producing heavy oil. However, the steps of producing heavy oil are progressing properly as per the strategy of the oil sector.For his part, Mr. Ahmad Al-Arbeed, former CEO of DANA Gas Company, briefed the conferees on the project of Ku-wait Capital of Oil, adding the project has reached a devel-oped phase since ideas have been crystallized and put in a document to initiate concrete steps in this domain. This document includes several developmental ideas aimed to develop the local oil industry through benefiting from in-ternational experiences and technologies besides a number of ideologies which are aimed to optimize the new resourc-es of energy rather than oil and its distillates.He further pointed out that the team in charge of the project is currently finalizing the process of assessing the efforts of Kuwait in the oil industry within the past twenty-five years and the achievements fulfilled in this regard.It is mentioned that a number of sessions and workshops were held on the sideline of the conference in participation of a group elite specialists of oil industry from all over the world.

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation an-nounced it intends to launch a pioneer-ing educational project aimed to deep-ly root the oil culture in the youngsters through issuing a group of books and issuances concerning the oil industry in the State of Kuwait through an excit-ing way using narration and diagrams. On this occasion, Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Managing Director of Governmental, Parliamentary, Pub-lic and Media Relations, said, “KPC

realizes the importance of the social responsibility it shoulders as it is the key engine of the Kuwaiti economy. Therefore, it has espoused the initia-tive of publishing a series of educa-tional photographic stories for the youngsters.”He further asserted that the issuance is considered the first of its kind in the international oil industry as it is a pio-neering, unique and cultural project in the oil industry.

Under the patronage of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Sami Al-Rushaid, Managing Director and Chairman of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), inaugurated the 1st Ku-wait Enterprise Risk Management on behalf of Mr. Farouq Al-Zanki – CEO of KPC – on 26-28 November, 2012 in Holiday Inn Hotel, Kuwait.In his inaugural speech, Al-Rushaid affirmed that prog-ress and development are usually accompanied by risks which differ in liaison with the challenges of the age and the requirements of such development.He pointed out KPC and its subsidiaries have witnessed a number of changes regarding risks management in line with the new challenges which the oil industry con-fronts. For example, the Kuwaiti oil sector has recently witnessed a number of risks among which hackers, and geopolitical fluctuations that have destabilized the oil markets. Add to this is the environmental and climatic changes.Mr. Ali Al-Hajeri, Managing Director of Financial Affairs Sector at KPC, said the corporation deals with enterprise

risks as per certain ideology since 2004. Accordingly, it has established Risk Management Department for such purpose as the oil industry faces several risks that neces-sitates being ready to deal with them properly and in a timely manner.He further indicated that Kuwait and KPC in particular are pioneers in risk management field as KPC has applied international criteria approved in this domain.Meanwhile, Mr. Nabil Bouresli, Managing Director of Administrative Affairs Sector, highlighted KPC’s strat-egy in dealing with risks, adding it allots several visions to manage the risks it may experience to control or trim down the negative impacts of these risks.It is noteworthy that Mrs. Eman Al-Gharaballi, Team Leader of Risk Enterprise Management Department, un-derlined the journey of the corporation in risk manage-ment field and the achievements it has fulfilled in this domain. Sheikha Shatha Al-Sabah: Success achieved by media workshops is success for KPC ideologySheikha Shatha Nasser Al-Sabah, Managing Director of Training and Career Development sector at KPC, affirmed Petroleum Training Center (PTC) has recently organized an in-tensive media program for the top of-ficials of the oil sector to bolster com-munication between KPC and media.She indicated that the media pro-gram included specialized workshops for the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Farouq Al-Zanki, the managing direc-tors, their deputies, the managers of public relations and media along with team leaders of KPC and its subsid-iaries. These workshops highlighted the ways of building deeply-rooted relations with local and international media and how to deal with it particu-larly during the time of crises.

They also underlined the way of tak-ing part in TV seminars and interviews as well as the way of dealing with the latest technologies of communication and the social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.She added PTC sought the experience of the international media practitio-ner Robert Mathew who spotlighted his long experiences in media starting from his work in BBC and Financial Times newspaper, Sunday Telegraph, Times and Economist.She further indicated that PTC has occupied a considerable status and international reputation thanks to the training programs it provides to the personnel of the oil sector irrespec-tive of their degrees. In addition, it seeks the assistance of the best inter-

Int’l Marketing Sector receives Ethiopian delegation

Mr. Nasser Al-Mudhaf, Managing Director of Interna-tional Marketing Sector at KPC, received a high-level Ethiopian delegation headed by HE Mr. Sufian Ahmad, State Minister for Finance and Economic Development, along with a number of Ethiopian diplomatic corps mem-bers to Kuwait on Wednesday November 28, 2012 in the headquarters of the oil complex.The visit is aimed to negotiate on the pricing policy be-tween KPC and Ethiopia for 2013 particularly for jet fuel and gasoil. This is part of KPC’s keenness to carry out its strategy which is aimed to underpin its presence in a number of promising markets through exporting the Kuwaiti crude oil and its distillates to the largest possible number of mar-kets particularly Africa whose markets are distinguished

Al-Qanadi said, “I’m proud of the time I spent in serv-ing an institution like KPC which has international sta-tus. Add to this is the brotherly relations I established with my colleagues throughout this long journey of work. Finally, I would like to thank and appreciate each employee supported me and cooperated positively with me at work.”

KPC Spring Camp inauguratedKPC Spring Camp was inaugurated on Friday December 14, 2012 in Camp Area which is located on Wafra Road.The camp included prominent family tents for hospitality and other tents for performing prayers along with tents for parties and meals. Moreover, a special tent was in-stalled for the Kuwaiti traditional sitting and other enter-taining games and activities which added joy to children and their guardians too.It is noteworthy that Public Relations Department was keen on providing safety and security criteria for the camp-goers as it allowed only KPC personnel and their

families to enter the camp which was provided also with an ambulance and professional paramedical team from Ahmadi Hospital.Public Relations Department indicated that the camp re-ceives KPC personnel and their families everyday from 7:00am to 10:00pm until the end of March, 2013.For his part, Mr. Ali Murad, Manager of Public Rela-tions Department, and Mrs. Wasmiya Al-Meshan, Team Leader at Public Relations Department, along with the concerned employees, were keen on receiving the camp-goers personally.

Environment Department is one of the important departments in Kuwait Petro-leum Corporation as it pays special con-cern to health and man’s life not only in the corporation but also in Kuwait in general. From this point, KPC Newsletter has in-terviewed Dr. Fatima Al-Shatti, Manag-er of Environment Department to shed light on the department and its duties through its chapter of “Department un-

der Spotlight” which is aimed to high-light the duties of KPC’s various depart-ments. Al-Shatti said Environment Department is keen on achieving excellence in the environmental performance through playing a key role in providing support and experience to top officials of KPC and its subsidiaries.She indicated the goals of the depart-ment can be summed up in the follow-ing points:- To create a proper work environment on the level of the oil industry through the following items:

Achieving the goals of the sustain-• able development and improving the environmental performance.Applying the items of international • environmental treaties ad conven-tions.Trimming down the negative im-• pacts yielded by man’s wrong be-haviors and environment accidents.

Asked about the duties which the de-partment undertakes, Al-Shatti said

these duties are briefly recapped in the following points:- Applying KPC 2030 strategic direc-tions – we mean here what is related to environment – in collaboration with KPC’s subsidiaries through providing proposals and recommendations help achieve these directions.- Following up and assessing the en-vironmental performance of KPC and its subsidiaries and to identify to what extent their performance meets the re-quirements of the goals and strategy of the corporation.- Executing, reviewing and auditing HSE criteria and environmental poli-cies and plans including the procedures and related principles allotted in this do-main.- Applying KPC’s strategy of warm gas policy.- Taking part in the decision-making process and complying with obligations of territorial and international treaties and conventions which KPC has signed in this respect.

- Applying the policy and plan of con-trolling oil spills; in addition to making sure that KPC and its subsidiaries are committed to applying it accurately in cooperation with Environment Public Authority (EPA) and some other con-cerned government authorities.- Focusing on the performance of the environmental performance of KPC’s subsidiaries through allotting goals and plans for the annual and the 5-year plan in liaison with KPC 2030 strategy.As for the achievements which Envi-ronment Department accomplished in 2011/2012, Al-Shatti said the depart-ment has fulfilled several prominent achievements among which what fol-lows:
