“Chief” Class 22,000 DWT (1,617teu) Multipurpose Vessels Multiple Solutions for Sustainable Shipping through Maximum Efficiency www.swireshipping.com One Flag: Multiple Solutions The China Navigation Company (CNCo), the deep sea ship owning and operating arm of the multi-national Swire group, is proud to introduce the innovative, industry-leading “Chief” Class vessels throughout the course of 2015. The “Chief” Class series will be composed of four new vessels, designed by Neptun Ship Design, optimised by HSVA, and built by Zheijiang Ouhua Shipyard in China. All four of the new vessels will be directly deployed into Swire Shipping’s Australia to PNG liner trade, which offers market leading fixed day weekly sailings from Australian east coast ports to main ports in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. This investment underlines CNCo’s commitment to providing sustainable shipping solutions. The innovative “Chief” Class will provide Swire Shipping’s valued customers with additional capacity, heavy lift capability (up to 120 tons) and increased cargo handling flexibility. The vessels have been specially designed for their unique high speed cargo handling ability and the versatility to carry a wide range of cargo types including dry and refrigerated containers, heavy-lift plant machinery and equipment, project parcels and agricultural commodities such as bulk parcels of grain. In addition, the vessels can cater for up to 8 passengers. The highlight of the fleet is its “best in class” environmental performance. The vessels will operate to the highest environmental standards in the industry, correspondingly ensuring the lowest fuel consumption per tonne-mile and resulting in the lowest possible carbon footprint from operations. The main features of these industry-leading initiatives include: The vessels exceed all anticipated future environmental regulations being equipped with: a ballast water treatment system, advanced incinerator and oily water separator plants and have large black and grey water storage tanks so discharge in ports and sensitive marine environments can be avoided. • Computer optimised hull lines and main engine and propeller specially designed to achieve the lowest fuel consumption with maximum efficiency at 60% MCR. • A Wartsila 5RTFlex58T-D 2 stroke low speed diesel engine, derated to achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption at the designed speed of 15.5kts fully laden. • Rudder bulb installed aft of the propeller to further enhance the propeller efficiency and a special flap rudder has been chosen to minimise rudder movement on passage and enhance manoeuvring in port in conjunction with a bow thruster, reducing dependence on tugs. The three cargo cranes are variable speed MacGregor Electric type which use approximately 40-50% less power than similar electro hydraulic cranes and are about 30% faster in cycle time. • Considerable effort has been made to reduce power consumption in all areas of the ship. The heat from the exhaust gases of the main engine and two of its three generators is used to make steam for heating the fuel. The speed of the main sea water pumps and engine room fans are automatically adjusted to suit the main engine power and regenerative heat is used to reduce heating for the fuel purifiers. • Electric winches and windlasses, low powered energy efficient lighting throughout the vessel and advanced navigational systems and vessel energy management systems to enhance navigational safety and minimise fuel consumption. • Forced draft fans are installed in 4 of the 5 holds to improve cargo care and facilitate the carriage of dangerous goods.

The China Navigation Company (CNCo), the deep sea ship owning and operating arm of the multi-national Swire group, is proud to introduce the innovative, industry-leading “Chief” Class vessels throughout the course of 2015.

The main features of these industry-leading initiatives include:

• The vessels exceed all anticipated future environmental regulations being equipped with: a ballast water treatment system, advanced incinerator and oily water separator plants and have large black and grey water storage tanks so

discharge in ports and sensitive marine environments can be avoided.

• The three cargo cranes are variable speed MacGregor Electric type which use approximately 40-50% less power than similar electro hydraulic cranes and are about 30% faster in cycle time.
