It is evident that the Nicisanak have dedicated countless hours of pride with the preparation of these top quality book bags.

February was a short, but very busy and productive month. There
were many school activities that enhanced the school spirit and
made all learning experiences fun: story-tellers, puppet show, mini
pow-wow, spirit week, and our valentine’s party. We want to say a
very special thank you to all the parents that sent treats,
cupcakes/cakes/cookies, and a fruit platter. The students were
excited to share all their goodies and their valentine cards.
Students in our grade 1 classroom learned the importance of
treating each other with kindness. The whole school was presented
with pink t-shirts to demonstrate our goal to “Stand Up Against
Bullies”. Everyone looked awesome in pink.

Hello from Grade 3
Dear parents/guardians,
March is here and spring will soon be coming!! I would like to remind parents to send
appropriate clothing to school with their child (boots, winter coat, ski pants, mitts and toque, and
an extra set of clothes). March still has unpredictable weather and all students are expected to go
outside for recess unless a note from home is sent. On Tuesday, March 17th we are planning
some fun activities for St. Patrick’s Day and I am asking that students wear green.
Miss Gardypie is now fulltime teaching so please make sure to ask your child all the great things
they are learning from her. Next month in April it will be our fundraising month for our end of
the year field trip. I am welcoming any suggestions on what kind of fundraising our class can
do. I will also be asking for parents to volunteer their time or make donations for our
fundraisers. Please let me know if you have any ideas.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call or come and see us at the school.
Thank you,
Ms. D. Benson Gr. 3 Teacher

Tansi from the Grade 4 Classroom!
Time is flying by when one keeps busy! Can you believe there are less than 4 months of
school left!
We have completed our Developmental Reading Assessments (DRA) of all the grade four
students. I am glad to report that all of the students have demonstrated growth in their
reading levels. Keep up the good work. I commend parents/guardians for encouraging your
child to read at home. We completed another strand on Numbers and will be starting the
next strand on Shapes and Sizes (measurement) for the next three weeks.
We are in the process of planning our yearend trip to Regina in the month of May. This trip
is based on the 3 AAA, Attendance, achievement and ATTITUDE. The onus is put on the
students and so far it has been a positive environment.
Birthdays in February: Jericho Constant - February 10 (10 years), Kerissa Bird - February

ELA Catalyst Mentor (Mrs. L. Cameron) March, 2015
Our next Family Literacy Night will be March 26. Please watch for notices on the
date and activity planned for the up-coming evening. A big thank-you to all those
who came to our February ‘Community Blanket - Family Literacy Night’, which was
intended to embrace the history of Beardy’s & Okemasis FN. Supper and socializing
was also a big part of the evenings family fun time spent together.
My role this past month as an English Language Arts (ELA) Catalyst Mentor was
focused on assisting teachers assess students growth in reading and writing. These
assessment results are what drives the instruction for each child’s learning needs.
In March we will begin using the information for our ‘focus for instruction’.
The Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is underway with new groups. We are
pleased with the eagerness the students express as they return each day with
their books read and activities completed. They are not only becoming better
readers and writers at a speedier rate, but they are also building self-confidence
in their own abilities. This is exciting for us as well as for the students.
Math/ Levelled Literacy Interventionist (L.L.I)
This month the mathematics strand will be Shape & Space with a measurement focus.
Once again each student will conduct a pre-assessment and once the concepts are completed
they will also complete a post-assessment.
L.L.I.
The new L.L.I. groups have been selected and the program is well under way. If your
child has been selected for the L.L.I. program, please ensure they are reading at home and
completing their assignments.
If you have any questions or concerns reguarding the Math program of L.L.I., please feel to contct me
at the school at your convienience
Thanks, Mrs. J Head
