Provide customers with a greater choice in merchandise and groceries Generate new job opportunities Strengthen the local economy About the New Store To better serve the community, Walmart is pleased to announce plans to completely renovate and expand its Chico store, including new interior and exterior features, a resurfaced parking lot and added landscaping. The store will include approximately 64,000 square feet of new floor space dedicated, in part, to new general merchandise and a full-service grocery department that includes fresh produce, a bakery and a deli. The store will also have a drive-thru pharmacy, fueling station and additional retail pads for small businesses. Even though the project is smaller, and the architecture and plan different than what was proposed in 2009, the new plan does not compromise the selection, service and savings demanded by our customers. Sustainability Features At Walmart, being an efficient business and good steward of the environment are goals that work together. In fact, your Chico Walmart already utilizes a rooftop solar power system. The remodeled store will incorporate a variety of new sustainability features to reduce demand for resources, utilize non-toxic materials and promote waste reduction. Those features include energy-efficient lighting and refrigeration, water-conserving technologies and practices, ozone-friendly refrigerants and hot water supplied by reclaimed heat from refrigeration units. Positive Economic ImpactsThis remodeled store will be part of the solution when it comes to creating jobs and economic opportunities. The remodeled store will bring about 85 new job opportunities to the community, plus construction jobs.

With more taxable goods on the shelves, the remodeled store will generate additional tax revenue to help fund important public services like police, fire, parks and code enforcement.

Walmart spent more than $24.5 billion for merchandise and services with suppliers in California in FYE 2016, helping provide more than 212,055 jobs.*

In 2015, Walmart announced bold new Associate Opportunity Initiatives to help associates in the U.S. earn higher pay and advance their careers based on the skills they learn and the customer service they provide. Many Walmart associates have long careers with the company. In fact, nearly 75 percent of Walmart’s store management team began their careers as hourly associates.

Walmart offers competitive benefits, including health care coverage, 401(k) plans, career training programs, store performance-based bonuses and opportunities for advancement.

As of April 2016, the average wage for regular, full-time hourly associates in California is $14.06 per hour.
