Christmas has been hijacked. Be-ginning in early October, we see holiday banners hanging from shopping mall ceil-ings and plastic trees lining store shelves. Christmas music begins to fill the airwaves as fall pumpkins are turn-ing bright orange. Each year, the sights and sounds of Christmas come a little earlier, and merchandise gets a little more tempting.
This Advent study, A Different Kind of Christmas: Living and Giving Like Jesus, encourages us to move our focus away from consumerism and to reclaim the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus. you will be inspired to estab-lish new Christmas traditions that focus on Jesus Christ.
This study is part of a churchwide program that includes five week studies for adults, youth, and children, so your whole church family can participate in the effort to reclaim Christmas.
At the 9:45 a.m. Sunday school hour all the adults and youth will gather in the Sanctuary to view a brief video by Mike Slaughter. Sunday school stu-dents will then be dismissed to return to their classrooms. people who do not have a Sunday school class may remain in the Sanctuary to discuss the topic of the day with pastor Jack.
Study materials are $7.55 a copy. If you would like to order one: please write ADVENT on the
Registration Sheet or contact the church office this week.

Our community Thanksgiving Dinner is a wonderful outreach to those who are alone on this special day and to homebound residents who need meals delivered to them. We have provided this meal for more than 25 years. Church mem-bers share food and bring it to the church. Deb & Bruce Morris are the coordinators and this year they need more helpers. Contact them at 903-860-7245 or the church office if you can help.

CHURCH BAZAARyummy, yummy, goodies for the tummy! Notice that familiar aroma in the air? It’s that
tantalizing blend of stew and chili..pumpkin pie..a cornucopia of lovingly homemade, mouth-watering Thanksgiving and Christmas treats competing for your attention.
yes, friends, it’s that time when we skip Weight Watchers meetings, shove Jenny Craig into the back of the fridge and race through the double doors of the Family Life Center causing a bottle-neck bigger than the church exits when the Cowboys have a noon kick-off. Yep, it’s finally here, the granddaddy of all food-centered events that we Method-ists love so much –the annual Church Bazaar! Mark your calendar or set your iphone reminder for Saturday, November 17th from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m.
Becky Arterbury, Nicki Arm-strong, Loraine Deener, Mary Lee Knippenberg, Mary Bea-dles, Maaike plantinga, Jean pamplin, and Jean Ann Marshall have been diligently working throughout the year to make this year’s event a success. They’ve made beautiful Christmas deco-rations, arts, crafts, jams and jellies that will be available for sale, but there’s always room for more if you would like to donate an item. Contact the church of-fice or Becky Arterbury at 903-860-3661 to contribute.
Billy and Veronica Jordan will once again be donning their chef’s hats in the kitchen. Their chicken stew rivals that of any blue ribbon winner at the State Fair! They are re-questing eight, cooked and deboned whole chickens in addition to two, five pound bags of cooked and deboned legs and thighs. If you would like to donate please contact Billy Jordan at 903-537-4390 or 903-285-8375. The cooked chicken needs to be at the Family Life Center no later than 5 o’clock on Friday, November 16th. Stew will be available to purchase on Saturday by the bowl or quart. I’ll bet just a taste will have you begging for a couple of jars to take home.
Mary Lou and Gerald Mowery are heading up this year’s silent auction. Many items, such as a sofa, mini travel iron and Cuisinart cast iron grill, and Salmon fishing trip on Lake Michigan have already been donated. Services may be offered for auction as well. More items are needed and it’s not too late to donate. If you have an item, talent, or service you would like to contribute, please contact the church office or Gerald and Mary Lou Mowery at 903-860-2178 or 903-305-4017.
Virginia Smith is offering casseroles to purchase for $10 each at the Bazaar. Now, where else can you find a deal like that? If would like to participate in making a delicious casserole to sell contact Virginia at 903-860-2101.
Our ever-ambitious youth of FUMC will be serving heaping bowls of steaming chili during lunch. Who can resist that on a crisp autumn day? If you would like to help, contact Cindy McDonald at 903-588-5090.
What a day of fellowship, food and fun! THANK yOU for all the hard work and dedication to making this event a success.
