I would like to share with youa story I read some time back. Ihope all of you will rememberthat life is a gift, we will never beable to go back and change somethings we do in life.

An elderly carpenter was readyto retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leavethe house building business andlive a more leisurely life with hiswife, enjoying his extended fami-ly. The contractor was sorry tosee his good worker go and askedif he could build just one morehouse as a personal favour. Thecarpenter said yes, but in time, itwas easy to see that his heart wasnot in his work. He resorted toshoddy workmanship and usedinferior materials. It was an unfor-tunate way to end a dedicatedcareer. When the carpenter fin-ished his work, the employercame to inspect the house. Hehanded the front-door key to thecarpenter. This is your house, hesaid, “my gift to you.” The car-penter was shocked! What ashame! If he had only known hewas building his own house, hewould have done it all so differ-ently.

So it is with us. We build ourlives, a day at a time, often put-ting less than our best into thebuilding. Then, with a shock, werealise we have to live in thehouse we have built. If we coulddo it over, we’d do it much dif-ferently. But we cannot go back.
