The expansion will allow the com- pany to meet the increasing demand for high-performance lubricants in automotive and industrial applica- tions, as demand for higher energy efficiency and high-quality base- stocks continues to grow. The project also improves process safety and overall unit efficiencies while reducing waste generation for the Cedar Bayou’s PAO unit. Feed- stocks for this project will be provid- ed through Chevron Phillips Chemi- cal’s recent 100,000 metric tons per year expansion of normal alpha olefins (NAO) capacity at its Cedar Bayou plant. “This additional capac- ity enables us to expand with our customer base to meet the future requirements of the industry,” said Global PAO Business Manager for Chevron Phillips Chemical Miles Oberton. Chevron Phillips Chemical is a leader in the development and production of PAOs, marketed under the brand name Synfluid® PAO, which are used for a variety of automotive and indus- trial applications including engine oils, gear oils and greases. Construction will begin in April 2016 with completion and startup expect- ed by mid-2017. The expansion will support up to 135 construction and engineering jobs. Chevron Phillips Chemical announces more expansion plans at the Cedar Bayou plant Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP announced on March 29 that it has reached final investment deci-sion to expand the low viscosity polyalphaolefins (PAO) capacity at its Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown by 10,000 metric tons per year or about 20 percent.

The expansion will allow the com-pany to meet the increasing demand for high-performance lubricants in automotive and industrial applica-tions, as demand for higher energy efficiency and high-quality base-stocks continues to grow.

The project also improves process safety and overall unit efficiencies while reducing waste generation for the Cedar Bayou’s PAO unit. Feed-stocks for this project will be provid-ed through Chevron Phillips Chemi-cal’s recent 100,000 metric tons per

year expansion of normal alpha olefins (NAO) capacity at its

Cedar Bayou plant.

“This additional capac-ity enables us to expand

with our customer base to meet the future requirements of the industry,” said Global PAO Business Manager for Chevron Phillips Chemical Miles Oberton. Use community CAER Line to stay informedIf you see a plant flare or hear a plant alarm, you can easily find out what is going on by calling the CAER Line; also known as the Community Awareness Emergency Response Line.

The CAER Line is operated and maintained by the East Harris County Manufacturers Association, or EHC-MA. They launched a new CAER Line with upgraded technology in 2015 to better serve the community and inform residents about emergency and non-emergency events at plants. The new CAER Line features courtesy messages in English and Spanish and community members can access the CAER Line by calling 281-476-2237 or

visiting online at www.ehcma.org/caerline

Along with the additional features, the CAER Line system is now able to handle a large call volume.

“The hotline that our community has used for more than 20 years is now more user friendly,” said Craig Beskid, East Harris County Manufacturers Association executive director.

CAER Line messages can be about events that require safety procedures,

such as evacuation or shelter-in-place, or non-emergency events such as flaring or fire drills, which require no community action. The CAER Line was created 20 years ago, and today serves more than 300,000 commu-nity members in East Harris County, including Baytown.

“EHCMA asks its members to post emergency messages to the CAER Line within 15 minutes of an event,” Beskid said. “Posting these messages keeps community members safe and informed.”

INVESTING IN THE BAYTOWN & CHAMBERS COUNTY COMMUNITIESThe Cedar Bayou plant was given the Award of Excellence from the United Way of Greater Baytown and Chambers County on April 28.

The award was presented to em-ployees Mike Salgy, Pat Hedges, and Casey Hedges recognizing the plant’s 2015 fundraising campaign that garnered $112,500 in employee donations. With the company’s dollar-for-dollar match, Cedar Bayou donated a total of $225,000.

The Award of Excellence was given to the Cedar Bayou plant for showing more than a 10% increase in employee participation and having an average donation of $100 or higher.

Products You Know Find out where everyday products start

Have you ever wondered what hap-pens to plastic after it is recycled?

Did you know that it only takes eight plastic bottles to make a soft new t-shirt? Or that 100 plastic bottles can be recycled into a styl-ish new chair for your living room?

Recycled plastics live on in many ways. From the clothing industry to the construction industry, busi-nesses are finding innovative ways to introduce recycled plastic into their consumer offerings. In 2013, collection surged by 11 percent to 1.14 billion pounds, according to a national postconsumer plastic bag and film recycling report released at the 2015 Plastics Recycling Con-ference. This marks the highest an-nual collection of plastic film —a 74

percent increase— since the survey began in 2005.

“Globally, we are pioneering more in-novations in plastics and plastic films that help reduce packaging waste and food waste. These advance-ments play a vital role in diminish-ing the amount of materials used to package and protect food and other consumer products,” said Rick Wagner, CPChem’s global sustain-ability manager.

Looking for a quick way to learn about recycling plastic film? Chev-

ron Phillips Chemical developed three short recycling videos that will be posted to social media channels (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter). These videos are designed to help educate the public (and you!) about plastic film recycling – what to recycle and how.
