ALWAYS AN OVERRIDING CONCERN. The question for Chevrolet’s engineers was

how can they make Equinox even safer. The

answer comes in several different forms,

employing a range of the latest technologies.

A new standard electronic pedal override

intervenes if you press down on the accelerator

and brake simultaneously – overriding the

accelerator. There’s even a new integral

blind spot mirror. That’s in addition to

existing safety features like the standard

StabiliTrak® system that includes trailer sway

control and rollover mitigation. But the most

high-tech safety news comes in the form of

lane departure warning and forward collision

alert systems that are available on 2LT and

LTZ models equipped with the available

V6 engine. Clearly, safety in Equinox is an

overriding concern.

STABILITRAK®StabiliTrak® compares your steering input with the vehicle’s actual track, intervening automatically whenever it detects a loss of lateral traction (sideslip), understeer (plowing) or oversteer (fishtailing). It helps return Equinox to your intended line by incrementally applying an individual brake and if necessary, by reducing engine torque. Electronic stability control systems, like StabiliTrak® have been proven to reduce the risk of a fatal single-vehicle crash by a remarkable 63 percent.*

SAFETY CAGE CONSTRUCTIONThe exceptional structural integrity of Equinox is aided by nearly 100 percent use of high-strength steel in the frame’s inner structure. The safety cage construction, in conjunction with side-door beams, helps prevent intrusions into the passenger compartment during a collision.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING AND FORWARD COLLISION ALERTOn 2LT and LTZ models, the newly-available forward collision alert uses a forward-facing camera to continually monitor proximity of vehicles in front and, when it detects a potential collision based on closing speed, provides the driver with an audible alert. It combines with the lane departure warning that actually reads the lines on the road and provides a visual and audible alert if the driver strays into another lane without signaling.

SIX AIRBAGSEquinox is equipped with six standard airbags** including standard front-to-rear, head curtain side-impact airbags which feature sensors that cause the airbags to deploy when an impending rollover is detected.

REAR VISION CAMERAThe available rear vision camera helps you see objects behind you when you’re in reverse. The system is standard on all 2012 LT and LTZ models. The display appears on the new 178 mm (7 in.) colour touch-screen audio system.

ULTRASONIC REAR PARKING ASSISTWhen in reverse, ultrasonic rear parking assist detects obstacles in your path. The system then activates audio warnings. Standard on LTZ and available on 2LT models equipped with the available Chrome Appearance Package.
