What is HealthWatch?• The independent consumer champion for health and
(social) care services
• Engagement systems for individuals and groups to collectively influence commissioning decisions and how services are delivered, from the user perspective
• Signposting for local information, support and advice to help people with their overall health and wellbeing, how to access and navigate services.
• Support and advocacy for making a complaint
What is a HealthWatch Pathfinder?
• A network of 75 pathfinders nationally, focusing on different aspects of HealthWatch services.
• Working in learning sets to share ideas and develop products
• The outputs will help determine:– The best operating model(s) for the new organisation– How the services from Local Healthwatch should be
specified and commissioned (by local authorities)– The best ideas, tools and products that will help in the
development of Local HealthWatch across the country• A learning set for the East Midlands starts from October
2011
Commissioning Local Healthwatch• LAs will commission the local healthwatch service• Dept of Health Consultation on funding options for local
health watch runs until 24/10/11• Elements of funding for local healthwatch will come from
a variety of sources including patient advice and liaison services currently provided within PCTs.
• A service specification will need to be developed in early 2012
• Subject to passage of legislation local health watch services will be in place from October 2012, with the addition of advocacy services in April 2013
• It is intended LINks will transform into local healthwatch and could operate in a number of organisational models
