Ballantyne Village | Charlotte, NC

In collaboration with Ballantyne Village project owners, Vision Ventures, I created their new brand logo and logo

guidelines for marketing use and project wayfinding application. In addition to working closely with the client

during the concept, schematic and design development stages, I also communicated frequently with project

fabricators to ensure efficient production and construction accuracy.

I recently submitted Ballantyne Village’s signage designs, which I co-managed and designed, to Sign of the

Times International Sign Contest and was awarded 2nd place and a future publication in their magazine this

year.

Designing logo and developed logo and branding guidelines.

Co-managing signage program design and development with client.

Primary designer throughout concept, schematic and design development stages.

Consistent communication with client to guarantee efficiency, product quality and

overall satisfaction with final product.

Attending meetings during all design stages.

Site visits prior to kickoff, during installations and following project completion.

Submitting final product to Sign of the Times International Sign Contest, winning

Second place in Freestanding Electric Signs category and a future publication.

oneC1TY is a large, private research campus and community currently be-ing built on the philosphy of health, technology and unity. Being the primary designer for Building 6’s wayfinding and signage program designs I chose to design toward an innovative and sophisticated, highly graphic collection. This is the most intense project I’ve worked on to date and I enjoyed the vi-sioning process, out-of-the-box creativity and extra responsibility of manag-ing throughout the collaboration.

Responsibilities: - Collaborating with client to discuss and address signage needs through-out building interior and on exterior and composing creative and consistent branding solutions to best represent the project’s identity. - Managing signage program design and development from initial concepts to detailing. - Primary designer throughout concept, schematic and design development stages. - Attending conference call meetings during all design stages and address-ing any and all concerns and comments for client approval. - Researching Tennessee sign code to ensure all designs met both state and LEED requirements. - Researching and contacting regional sign fabricators to bid on project. - Preparing final design intent document for client review and bidding pro-cess.

Charlotte’s Third Ward transformed from dingy parking lot into bold, whimsi-cal Oz once Romare Bearden Park was installed, commemorating locally born and world renowned collage artist, Romare Bearden upon five acres of land. The park’s themes abstract Romare’s most influential life phases, weaving his history into Charlotte’s urban fabric. From his travels in Paris to the colorful gardens of his childhood neighbors, Romare’s art inspires an ex-perience created in collaboration with 505Design’s and LandDesign’s vision for a city park.

When I joined 505Design in 2013 this project was sitting stagnant in sche-matic mode and it became my responsibility to push the design into design development and fabrication. I was responsible for all artwork seen on each pylon and for all biographical content printed on top of artwork.

Responsibilities:- Collaborating with client to discuss and address signage needs throughout the design development and fabrication. - Managing signage program design and development from initial concepts to detailing.- Attending conference call meetings during all design stages and address-ing any and all concerns and comments for client approval. - Preparing final design intent document for client review and bidding pro-cess. - Overseeing installation on site and communicating with fabricator.

Perched on a corner of Nova Scotia’s foggy coastline rests twelve memori-als paying homage to both history and craftsmanship. Ghost is an interna-tional, two week design-build course under regionalist architect Brian MacK-ay-Lyons’ lead in Upper Kingsburg, Nova Scotia. Students and professionals are chosen to participate in one week of design and one week of build on Brian MacKay-Lyons’ Shobac Farm. Local vernacular, materials and history manifests in every annual Ghost project, each responding to the landscape and commemorating an unforgettable academic experience.

Twenty students were chosen to design and build a boathouse during Ghost 12 in 2010 under the guidance of Brian MacKay-Lyons, Australian architect Peter Stutchbury and local engineers. In five years of architectural academia, this fortnight in Nova Scotia proved most educational and passionate and I continue to feel fortunate to have this experience.
