CadmiumI 1800 The Antimony-Based Type I Clathrate Compounds Cs8Cd18Sb28 and Cs8Zn18Sb28.
— The title compounds, the first stoichiometric Sb-based clathrate I phases are synthe-sized in high yields (>95%) by reactions of stoichiometric mixtures of the elements (Nb containers, 550 °C, 10 d). The compounds crystallize in the cubic space group Pm3n with Z = 1. They exhibit different disorder patterns in the framework, which appears to be related to the different electronegativities of Cd, Zn, and Sb. These phases may lead to further superior thermoelectric materials. Cs8Cd18Sb28 is stable at 550 °C and converts into a new orthorhombic Cs2Cd5Sb4 phase at 600 °C (space group Cmcm). — (LIU, Y.; WU, L.-M.; LI, L.-H.; DU, S.-W.; CORBETT, J. D.; CHEN*, L.; Angew.
