KGaA, Weinheim www.cheminform.wiley-vch.de Cadmium I 1800 The Antimony-Based Type I Clathrate Compounds Cs8Cd18Sb28 and Cs8Zn18Sb28. — The title compounds, the first stoichiometric Sb-based clathrate I phases are synthe- sized in high yields (>95%) by reactions of stoichiometric mixtures of the elements (Nb containers, 550 °C, 10 d). The compounds crystallize in the cubic space group Pm3 n with Z = 1. They exhibit different disorder patterns in the framework, which appears to be related to the different electronegativities of Cd, Zn, and Sb. These phases may lead to further superior thermoelectric materials.
