K2CO3-Mediated, One-Pot, Multicomponent Synthesis of Medicinally Potent Py-ridine and Chromeno[2,3-b]pyridine Scaffolds. — An efficient potassium carbon-ate-catalyzed three-component reaction of malononitrile (I) with a wide variety of al-dehydes (II), (V), (VII) and thiols (III), (VIII) is presented to afford dihydropyrimidine intermediates which are aromatized with potassium permanganate.
