GLOVESSelection guidelines for hand protection.
Gloves are often relied upon to prevent cuts, abrasions, burns, and skin contact with chemicals that are capable of causing local or systemic effects following dermal exposure. OSHA is unaware of any gloves that provide protection against all potential hand hazards, and commonly available glove materials provide only limited protection against many chemicals. Therefore, it is important to select the most appropriate glove for a particular application and to determine how long it can be worn, and whether it can be reused.

GLOVESWith respect to selection of gloves for protection against chemical hazards:
(A) The toxic properties of the chemical(s) must be determined; in particular, the ability of the chemical to cause local effects on the skin and/or to pass through the skin and cause systemic effects;
(B) Generally, any "chemical resistant" glove can be used for dry powders;
(C) For mixtures and formulated products (unless specific test data are available), a glove should be selected on the basis of the chemical component with the shortest breakthrough time, since it is possible for solvents to carry active ingredients through polymeric materials
(D) Employees must be able to remove the gloves in such a manner as to prevent skin contamination.

1. Review Tote Condition• Check valve for visible damage obtained during
shipping. Do not use if damaged
2. Move tote from storage area to chemical room

4. With PPE on, remove the cover cap and any plastic or foil seal on the bottom valve.
5. Use Lock-out Tag-out. Turn off and unplug chemical pump or pumps.
6. Shut off bottom valve on old tote and any valve on the chemical line at the tote.

7. Remove cam lock fitting and drain any chemical found in cam lock fitting into a plastic catch bucket. Set tote fitting and chemical line in bucket and in a secure out of the way location.
8. Replace cap on the bottom valve of the old tote.
9. Remove old tote from chemical room.
10. Move new tote into position in the chemical room.

12. Lock chemical female cam lock fitting onto male tote fitting.
13. With PPE still on, open tote valve and check for leaks. Open any other chemical supply valves between tote and chemical tote.

14. Turn on pump(s) and bleed the chemical lines of air at chemical pump or before Griffco back pressure valve.
15. Wash down tote area and chemical lines.
16. Wash Down, remove and store acid suit, face shield, etc.

1. Don appropriate PPE2. On entering chemical room review all lines
for leaks.
3. Use Lock-out/ Tag-out. Turn off power and unplug the chemical pump to be repaired or to pump supplying line to be repaired. If leak is a spray, pump can be turned off through the WebMaster.

4. Turn off or close valve on bottom of tote and any other valves in the line supplying the pump or line to be repaired.
5. Wash down area of leak.
6. Locate repair supplies
7. Repair or replace chemical tubing, tubing fittings, chemical pump fittings, or chemical pump.

8. Open bottom tote valve and any valves in the
chemical supply line to the pump.
9. Turn on the power to the pump and put the
pump into “Hand” or plug pump into a
powered outlet.
10. Bleed air out of chemical feed lines at
chemical pump or before Griffco back pressure
valve.
