Training● Calculus, physical and organic chemistry, physics, and
biology are prerequisites you may have to take in order to train to become a chemical engineer.
● Courses to take during training are Process Control, Materials, Thermodynamics, Biomaterials, and Bioengineering.
● As far as a degree is concerned, all you need is a Bachelor’s(usually a license follows upon graduation).
A Day at WorkAs chemical engineers, you work amongst chemical, fuel, food, drug, aerospace, environmental and many other fields of work and you may have to design, develop, produce, sell, or manage. Whatever it takes. Expect a lot of problem solving, as you take chemist discoveries and apply it to the life around you. You commonly work in a team, large group, or a whole corporation
DupontFrom their successes in Kevlar to Tyvek, Dupont chemical engineering has produced plenty of outstanding achievements in this field. Kevlar is a strong body armor known to protects thousands of soldiers and officers, where as Tyvek is a polyethelene fiber sheet with benefits ranging from insulation to car covers to medical purposeshttp://www.dupont.com/
Bristol-Myers SquibbAs a national biopharmaceutical company, Bristol Myers works across the globe to fight diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, immune deficiencies, and many more. As a chemical engineer for this company, you could do anything from manufacturing a new product to managing a production line. http://www.bms.com/pages/default.aspx
Waldo Semon● American chemical engineer born on September 10,
1898● Invented tyres, PVC pipes, and bubble gum● Invented PVC by mistake while trying to invent an
adhesive that stuck rubber to metal● Bubble gum had already been invented, he made it so you could blow big bubbles
Dermot Manning● Along with his colleagues at ICI, he invented the plastic
known as polyethylene. This plastic is the most used plastic worldwide and comes in everything from ziploc bags to legos to gallons of milk.
