Chemical Bonding
By Tezen Mathew
What is Hemoglobin?
• a hemoprotein composed of globin and heme that gives red blood cells
• function primarily to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues
Why is it important
• There is a type of metal that is very important for your lungs.
• It carries oxygen from the lungs
Why is the transport of oxygen by hemoglobin a real-life example of a chemical bonding?
• It combines with the oxygen and carries it into the blood stream
How is hemoglobin related to a successful climb to the top of Mt. Everest?
• Mt. Everest is high up in the air that the oxygen is harder to breath in. so the hemoglobin come in action because it makes sure the red blood cells are getting the oxygen they need
What does the pH have to do with the transport of oxygen to hemoglobin?
• The hemoglobin wouldn`t blend with the oxygen well if the pH level is less than the normal
Blood Doping
• It will increase the blood cell mass and the performance of the body
Autologous and Hemologous blood doping
• Hemologous is when someone else's blood gets transferred top yours
• Autologous is when your own blood is transferred to you
• Hormone that’s transferred to the kidney to make red blood cells
Blood doping used for Medical
• It can be put into someone who have blood loss
Blood Doping in sports
• It athletes want to increase their performance they take Doping
Side effects
• Can include strokes, viruses, blood clots etc.
