CABRERA, Candice Maegan M. CHEM 26.1 THWX2 1. What is the significance of Grubbs Test? Grubbs test is important because it identifies if a certain value (the one farthest from the mean) is an outlier or not, and outliers may greatly affect the computation of other statistical measures, may affect the profile of the data set, and it may influence the analysis and interpretation of the data. Two factors to consider with outliers are: it may be important or it may be unimportant. First it may be important because that value may include details about that minority found which may be useful in a study, and second it may be unimportant because outliers may be caused by errors committed by the researcher when gathering data, thus identifying the outlier and if it is caused by error and removing that data may lead to more accurate results. Therefore, identifying an outlier may be important in the analysis of data, which corresponds to the Grubbs test being significant. 2. Give the significance of the mean and the standard deviation. Finding the mean is important because it builds a quantified profile of what your data set is. On the other hand the standard deviation is important because it measures the precision of the data. The standard deviation is actually dependent on the mean because the mean being the average value of the whole data set is the point at which the data’s deviation is measured. 3. Give the significance of the confidence interval. The identification of the confidence interval is important because it helps the researcher project in between which the values of the mean may be at a certain confidence level and at a certain size of a data set. This helps in creating a more precise estimate of the possible mean. 4. How do the statistics calculated from data set 1 differ from those obtained from data set 2? Data set 1 differs from data set 2 in the number of samples. Therefore computations for the statistical measures may differ since the value of n changes and more data that appears in different values is taken into consideration. Given that data set 2 has more samples and a lower standard deviation, you could say that data set 2 is slightly more precise than that of the first one. The mean also changed based on the calculated results this may be due to the additional 4 weights now being studied along with the previous 6. But given the nearness of all the data our group gathered, the differences in the computations do not differ by a significant amount even with the added data, some, such as the range as well as the Grubbs test even ended up with same results.

1. What is the significance of Grubbs Test?Grubbs test is important because it identifies if a certain value (the one farthest from the mean) is an outlier or not, and outliers may greatly affect the computation of other statistical measures, may affect the profile of the data set, and it may influence the analysis and interpretation of the data. Therefore, identifying an outlier may be important in the analysis of data, which corresponds to the Grubbs test being significant.

2. Give the significance of the mean and the standard deviation.Finding the mean is important because it builds a quantified profile of what your data set is. On the other hand the standard deviation is important because it measures the precision of the data. The standard deviation is actually dependent on the mean because the mean being the average value of the whole data set is the point at which the datas deviation is measured.

3. Give the significance of the confidence interval. The identification of the confidence interval is important because it helps the researcher project in between which the values of the mean may be at a certain confidence level and at a certain size of a data set. This helps in creating a more precise estimate of the possible mean.

Therefore computations for the statistical measures may differ since the value of n changes and more data that appears in different values is taken into consideration. Given that data set 2 has more samples and a lower standard deviation, you could say that data set 2 is slightly more precise than that of the first one.
