The Enduring Eye - The Antarctic Legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton and Frank Hurley

The Enduring Eye is an incredible photographic record by Frank Hurley of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s exploration of the Antarctic, 1914-17. Newly digitised images revealing previously unseen details of the crew’s epic struggle for survival, before and after their ship was destroyed. Frank Hurley’s breath-taking images powerfully demonstrate how photography can truly bring history to life.

.. until Friday 8 February Variable opening times: Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm. Please email the gallery before travelling or call 01242 714558 for access.

Exhibition event: Thursday 7th February, 5pm – 7pm

Alexander has been in residence in the gallery from 14 January, and the project will culminate in an exhibition of selected works from 1-8 Feb.

Alexander Stevenson – Still Waters Run Deep Alexander is interested in tracing an alternative take on Cheltenham’s origin myth. Seemingly unlikely connections will form between town-founding pigeons, navigation, coded messages, GCHQ, and the ever present spa waters.

In an experimental 4 week period, the artist will walk the streets of the spa town feeding back what he finds to the ’embassy’ that will be created at the Hardwick Gallery. Results will form video, costumes and installation in the gallery as well as interactions across Cheltenham with local interest groups such as pigeon fanciers and archivists.
