CHELSEA
Chelsea is a star-studded district favoured by
super-wealthy overseas property buyers; the
area is internationally renowned for designer
boutiques, Michelin-starred restaurants and
fashionable nightlife in Sloane Street, King’s
Road, Knightsbridge and Belgravia.
The Royal Borough of Kensington is known as
“the village of palaces” because it is home to
London’s rich and royal inhabitants.
More than half of London’s most expensive
streets can be found in the Royal Borough of
Kensington and Chelsea.
Douglas & Gordon estate agents offer the
highest standard of service to their discerning
clientele and have excellent knowledge of the
local area, having built strong relationships
within the community.
Top Chelsea estate agent and the branch
office sales director, Ed Mead, has been
dealing in Chelsea property for 30 years and
assures clients that Douglas & Gordon covers
a broad range of local properties.
A studio flat for sale in Chelsea may start at
£300,000, escalating to multimillion-pound
price tags on larger houses for sale.
According to Ed, “70% of our clients are
foreign – which is why it’s useful that we
speak five languages in our office!”

Chelsea is also steeped in military history,
with landmarks like the Chelsea Royal
Hospital for invalid soldiers, Chelsea
Barracks and, until recently, the Duke of
York’s barracks. Chelsea properties in the
Cheyne Walk area became famous during the
19th century when the district became an
artists’ colony. The 1960’s saw this bohemian
ambience rekindled as Chelsea property
became home to icons like the Beatles and
Rolling Stones, placing the area at the centre
of the “Swinging Sixties”.
Services
With the services in Chelsea, as with the property, you’ll find you get what you pay for – the
higher prices reflect the high quality of the service.
Proximity to good transport links into and out of London is still very important. Chelsea is
popular with everyone, from young single people through to families who are attracted by the
good schools here. They all love the shopping and nightlife, plus the fact that it is a safe area.

It’s hardly surprising that the demand for
rental property far exceeds the supply in the
prestigious Chelsea area. This is why it
makes sense to consult an experienced local
letting agent about acquiring a house for rent.
Nicky Chambers, Douglas & Gordon’s chief
Chelsea letting agent and office lettings
manager, says; “We have a shortage of both
apartments and houses, partly because
landlords have been selling to take
advantage of the very strong sales market.”
There has been a huge increase in local
rental values, although it varies from property
to property. Nicky says that a two-
bedroom property for rent in Chelsea going
for between £700 and £900 per week is
particularly hard to come by.
Chelsea letting agents are fortunate because
the SW3 postal district generally offers a
diverse range of conversion flats, mansion flats
and houses to let. A one-bedroom flat for rent
in Chelsea will cost you £375-600 per week,
two-bedroom flats around £500-1500 per
week, and three-bedroom properties will cost
up to £900-2500 per week. Four-bedroom
Chelsea properties will cost £1500-£5000
weekly. Prices around Sloane Square,
Belgravia, or the borough’s garden squares will
be the highest.

Shopping & Food
Chelsea boasts an eclectic mix of dining and shopping options reflecting the cosmopolitan nature
of the residents. This includes everything from Harrods to Head shops, and eateries to suit every
budget and taste.
Culture & Leisure
The theatre at Sloane Square and upmarket cinemas on the Kings Road compete for attention
with tennis/swimming facilities at the famous Harbour Club. For those whose favourite leisure
activity is shopping, Chelsea leads the way!
