09YOUR DREAM JOBis waiting for you!

I watched a video recently where the host was advising people to find a real job. He went on to say people should not follow their passion ordreams, and to find a real job that pays the bills… I FIRMLY disagree! He used the example of entertainment jobs, which have a fantasy aspect tothem. Sure all of us might have wanted to be a rockstar at some point in our lives,I know I did! I’m still kicking myself about not putting together a girl groupbefore the Spice Girls. Here’s the thing… wanting to be a rockstar is what shaped part of who I amtoday. There is a rockstar living inside a lot of us, and it may be our desire to beenseen and heard by as many people as possible. How far you take being a rockstar, may determine whether you are trulydestined to be a rockstar or not. This is where my 5 Dream Job Checkpoints come into play, which I’ll getinto shortly.

YOUR DREAM JOBNext, the host assumes by following your dreams or passion you will not beable to pay your bills, which is another reason I firmly disagree with him. If you really think about your dream job right now, it most likely comes witha paycheck and if you’re truly thinking about your dream job, it most likelycomes with a much bigger paycheck than you’re receiving right now. Of course there are some exceptions here, and I’d love to talk to you aboutthis if you truly feel there isn’t a big paycheck connected to your dream job. Because if this job or work is truly your dream and passion, there is a way toearn substantial income around it if the job or work is important to you, andI’d love to talk to you more about how this can be done. Let’s start with my 5 Dream Job Checkpoints to support you knowingquickly and whole-heartedly if you are on track to land the job of yourdream and make your next big move!

1: DESIRE / VISION"Vision is declaring the existence of something in thefuture that is unprecedented, unpredictable anddoes not exist yet"

It all begins with your desire. Your vision. The desire to do what are you meant to be doing every day of your life. When you are truly in love with your job or your personal brand you arecreating, you feel fulfilled and joyful. Yet there are too many people who do not feel this way. Desire and vision are the starting point, because this where you flush out andacknowledge all of the parts of who you are. You aren’t just one thing, and there might be a rockstar living inside you. You already know this, because it’s what makes you unique… you are unlikeanyone on this earth… even if you have an identical twin, you 2 are not thesame person. When we explore each passion we feel, we notice how some have short shelflives, we may not have the drive or stamina to turn some of them into asustainable livelihood, which may mean they get to be hobbies. Some may feel too challenging to create momentum around. This may feellike failure or incompetency, and it really isn’t at all. It may mean it’s not themost fulfilling and rewarding path for you at this time. So you let go and move on knowing you acknowledged that part of you that is passionate. Then there are the 1 or 2 that keep you up at night and call you. The 1 or 2we're great at or know we will be great at soon. The passion people tell us to pursue, the passion that lights us up.

1: DESIRE / VISIONThese are the areas I love working on with my clients… the passion that lights youup, AND letting go of what is not a definite YES for you. One of my clients loves to dance, yet she does not have the rigor or desire to trainas intensely as it would take for me to become a professional dancer. I wanted tobecome a sports agent, yet I did not have the rigor or desire to go to law school. Then there's letting go of what you’re not in love with, letting go of what is notfulfilling you. One of my clients was an incredible COO yet being in operations didnot make her happy. I call this - letting go of pushing the boulder uphill, and being OK with knowingyou honored your passion, or honored your passion and determined upfront, thismay not be the fulfilling way to go. This mindset creates the space to take the pressure off, release judgment andexpectations, and instead explore and honor other parts of your desire and vision…how liberating is that? Your passion and your ability have nothing to do with each other, yet I do believein acknowledging your passion and that it is worth seeing if there is a viable wayto turn it into your dream job. This process creates the space to get clear on your vision, where or how far youwant take your passion. As we move through the next 4 checkpoints, you will begin to get clear on howpassionate you are about potential jobs or opportunities that are aligned withyour vision, and how committed you are to landing your dream job with the payyou desire. These checkpoints will save you time, energy and resources when it comes tolanding your dream job.

2: COMMITMENTThis is the BIGGEST checkpoint out of the 5! Commitment is huge… even hearing the word commitment, usuallystirs things up in a lot of people. Commitment means you’re in… ALL IN. This is the area where people get stuck. People like to have options, a way out, or an excuse. Commitment includes the unwavering willingness to getuncomfortable and take a risk to be happy and fulfilled. When it comes to landing your dream job, commitment is the 2ndcheckpoint because this is HOW you’ll know if your desire and visionare real, meaning you'll know if you're following the best one at thispoint in your life, and whether or not you’ll land the job because you'rewilling to take a risk. Such a time saver! The next 3 checkpoints are only useful if you arecommitted to yourself and your dream job. This is the point where you make a powerful decision. Let’s say right now you are the top salesperson in your company, yetyou know you want to run the department and create a new trainingand development program for the team. Your commitment to yourvision means you are already building the training and developmentprogram, which will be part of your pitch or interview to run the entiredepartment. Your commitment has you planting seeds with everyone involved in thedecision making process. Your commitment has you supporting theperson who is currently running the department showcasing howmuch you care, demonstrating your results in this new way, and yourcommitment has you looking for opportunities internally and externallythat match your vision of running a sales department with a newtraining and development program.

2: COMMITMENTWhat commitment doesn’t look like is waiting for the ‘job’ tobecome availableWhat commitment doesn’t look like is taking no for an answerWhat commitment doesn’t look like is not letting anyone knowyour desire or vision - no hiding

This is where I was in December 2015. It was time for me to make a decision to deeply commit to my privatecoaching practice and invest in my Masters’ Program.  It wasn’t until I invested the first $5,000 into the training and certification, and fully committed to mastering my skills, sharing what I love to do with as many people out there looking to land their dream job, live with purpose, and with companies committed to creating thrivingcultures and an unlimited supply of dream jobs, that I knew this was mycalling. This is my dream job! This is exactly what I am meant to be doing every day! I committed to this! Before December 2015, I was coaching here and there, not really creating abusiness and not really creating a ripple effect of results for my clients ormyself because I wasn’t 100% committed. This is why your commitment takes a big decision. This decision might be…

Simply putting your name in the hat for your dream jobGoing back to get your Masters or PhDTaking a certification courseApplying for jobs that scare the heck out of youPitching a project or job that doesn’t exist yetSwitching industriesTaking the leap of faith to start your own businessTaking a job or internship that pays nothing to start, which is another wayof investing in yourself, such as working for a start-up. I’ve seen so manypeople win big by investing their time in a start-up, where they took asignificantly lower or non-paid position to have a seat at the table of abrand new company they were passionate about.

2: COMMITMENTThe bigger or deeper the commitment youmake, the quicker you’ll know if you’re on theright track.  If you don’t make this kind of commitment, you might have alsoanswered the dream job question… this may not be your dream job,and you get to let go it, and go back to the first checkpoint – desire /vision, and continue that type of mindset work. It is such a time and energy saver to pivot at this point, rather thansitting in the same old job month-after-month, year-after-year,spinning on something you are not committed to taking a risk topursue. If you are truly pursuing the job of your dreams, making this type ofcommitment or investment in yourself will not be challenging, itmight be scary, yet it will not be challenging. You most likely already know what this commitment or investmentis at this point. Are you ready to lock-in and go for it? If not, go back to the first checkpoint. If yes, continue.

3: COURAGEYour commitment does need to be backed up with courage. Commitment can be terrifying. It can feel risky. The results and pay off from your commitment can turn your desireand vision into you being in your dream job. Here’s the good news… we all have courage… all of us. Everyone is born with courage. How you act on it is key on this journey. It’s pretty easy to say you’ll do something, or think about doingsomething, yet to actually do it takes COURAGE!

3: COURAGE

On this journey of pursuing your dream job, when we get to thischeckpoint, I ask my clients... Are you ready to declare what you're committed to creating andunderstand there will be highs and lows along the way? This was a huge checkpoint for me in 2016. I did a lot of mindset work on my beliefs and habits to developsustainable courage to declare who I am, what I love to dounapologetically, and be completely visible and vulnerable along theway. This is still terrifying to a degree, yet worth it because I am successfuland fulfilled doing what I love and I am meant to be doing this everyday!

Courage is a belief. The belief in knowing you are worth it! You deserve to be happy, fulfilled, and doing what you are meant tobe doing every day. Courage is your strength. It is your doorway to possibilities and willsupport you shifting out of limiting beliefs along this journey. There will be failure, set backs, and rejection along the way -remember, the highs and lows. Courage creates the space for you to know neither the highs or lowsare permanent, nor do they ultimately define who you are.

"Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts"

- Winston Churchill

4: CONSISTENCYNow that you are committed to your desire and vision with courage, next is consistency. Some of my clients, before working with me, believed once they ‘makeit’ through the first 3 checkpoints, everything will be gravy and smoothsailing. It can be...with CONSISTENCY. Here's the question I ask my clients when beginning this checkpoint:  Are you committed to practicing what you are learning aboutyourself and your dream job journey? Practice consistently… not doing something once or twice, butconsistently? This is how my clients land their dream job AND enjoy the journey. Consistency is actually one of the cornerstones of mindset work andtransformation because it is one of the ways to create and supporthabit and behavior change. This journey is not about education, it is about becoming the personwho lands the job of their dreams and makes their next big move. It is how you consistently make choices and what you decide thingsmean in every moment on this journey.

4: CONSISTENCYIt’s easy give up or bask in short term results. Giving up and focusing only on the short term results might leaveyou wondering why things are the same, why you’re still in the samejob next month, next year, or for the next 5 years, making the samepay and not being 100% fulfilled. Simple example of this is dieting. One of the reasons dieting doesn’t really work is because it’sinconsistent. You do it for a few weeks, experience results, and thenyou quit. Then a few months later the results go away, you diet againfor a few weeks, experience results and then you quit. When you consistently make small, achievable upgrades along yourjourney, based on what you’re learning and how you’re evolving, youstart to experience your desired results in a sustainable way, andthen the results do not go away.

4: CONSISTENCYConsistency can include:

Updating your resume 2 - 4 times per year, no matter what – addingaccomplishments, new skills, completed projects, etc

Attending networking events consistently every month. This keepsyou in the game, top of mind, rather than sitting on the sidelinewaiting for your turn to play, or finding out the game is over and youmissed an opportunity. This is also extremely valuable for those ofyou looking to become a thought leader in your industry orstrengthen your stance as a thought leader. Your leadership andthoughts can't hide at home or in your office

Looking outside of the box when it comes to your job search. Gobeyond LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and company websites. Consistentlycreate more possibilities. This practice alone fuels inspirationbecause you will most likely find something you didn’t even knowexisted that may even be better than the dream job you had inmind

Practicing how you shift your mindset and see what triggers youaround your dream job to align yourself with your self worth andvalue

Accountability is one of the best ways to stayconsistent and practice.

How are you holding yourself accountable along your journey? How are you holding your commitment accountable alongyour journey?Who is supporting you and believing in your dream job?

When you are operating with consistency, your desire, commitmentand courage are paying off big time and are leveraged into biggeropportunities that will have you fulfilled and financially free beyondyour imagination.

5: CONFIDENCEHere’s the thing… when you are playing full out with the other 4checkpoints, confidence naturally arrives. When you are living and breathing your commitment to your dreamjob, and doing what you are meant to be doing everyday, you can’thelp but be confident. Your confidence develops from the consistent commitment you maketo yourself by having courage to become who you are meant to bewhile letting go of doubts and fears, and it all starts with your desireand your vision. Confidence is further developed when you align your beliefs andhabits with your true self, deepest desires and your vision. People who are confident believe in themselves and they believe inwhat they’re up to in the world.

5: CONFIDENCEConfidence is the fifth and final checkpoint because once you areconfidently moving through your dream job journey, making powerfuldecisions without second guessing yourself or anything, you are well withinyour professional purpose because you have connected the dots andcreated the path and results. Confidence is queen. Confidence is king because it begins with your beliefs and fuels youractions. Confident people take action… even when they don’t know how to dosomething because they are confident they will figure it out and if theydon’t, they are confident they are not a failure, and request support. Confident people simply know what they are doing in the moment isn’tworking and they can try something different, rather than choosing to seethemselves as a failure. Confident people do not give up. Confident people know when it is time to shift and pivot.

Everyone is born with confidence. Some people have covered up or hidden their confidence for a variety ofreasons, yet I am here to let you know, you have it, you have a ton of it, andit is up to you to uncover it, bring it out of hiding and let it serve you landingyour dream job! I’m curious, if you are stuck or still waiting for your dream job... What’s one thing you can do THIS WEEK to ignite your desire, vision, commitment, courage, consistency and confidence to pursue yourdream job?
