    How To Proof-read

    1. Review your assignments directions and all requirements AGAIN. 2. Revise your writing to include all the requirements for this assignment. Use the

    Assignment Requirement Checklist below. 3. Read your draft aloud or use a text reader to listen as you read. 4. Listen for awkward or unclear sentences. Highlight them.

    5. Now return to the start of your writing. Work on revising sentences before checking for other items.

    6. Next, check each item on your checklist below by reading through your essay or business plan, looking only for that specific item.

    7. Repeat for each item on your checklist. 8. After you complete and check off each listed item below, include this sheet to your

    Final Project. This is worth 5 points.

    Assignment Requirements

    Have I followed the assignments required formatting by typing single space using 12 fonts with 1 inch margins covering a minimum of 5 pages not including a title/cover page, bibliography (Part 3) or Part One?

    Were all the stated required items covered in Part One of Assignment 3?

    Did I complete my bibliography using the APA or MLA format that I used to research my business plan or research paper?

    Does Part 3, my bibliography include 5+ resources with 3 resources which have been published within 5 years

    Did I list all resources that I used and/or quoted in my bibliography?

    Did I insure that everything Im submitting is in my own words and that I have properly cited and quoted the writing that was not mine?

    For Business Plan: Have I explained, analyzed, supported and written my research findings in all the listed Business Plan template sections (excluding the financial

    section)?

    For Business Research Essay/Paper: o Have I written a good Introduction AND grabbed the readers attention? o Have I researched and written in-depth about a minimum of 3 recommended

    topics (listed in the directions) about the company I chose?

    o Did I support my opinions and analysis about the companys effectiveness on the topics I covered?

    o Is my Conclusion a well written summary of my key points and my analysis that I already fully discussed in the Body of my research paper/essay?

    Words

    Have I corrected missing words and/or removed extra words?

    Have I chosen the best word for my meaning? If not, use Synonym Support through Microsoft (MS) Word or a thesaurus to find a better word choice.

    Am I missing transition words and/or phases?

    Have I over-used to be (is, are, was)? If yes, use action verbs and Synonym Support to replace those passive verbs.

    Grammar and Mechanics

    Are all my sentences complete thoughts?

    Are my paragraphs consistently separated by indentations on the first sentences for each paragraph OR reflect a space between each new paragraph?

    Have I capitalized proper nouns and sentence beginnings?

    Do I have appropriate punctuation at the end of each sentence or the end of each transitional phrase?

    Do I have consistent verb tense within a sentence?

    Are all my commas used correctly?

    Have I used advanced punctuation correctly? (semi-colon, colon, quotes)

    Are pronoun references clear?

    Spelling

    Have I used spell-check to check words Im not sure about?

    Have I checked homophones and commonly confused words?

    Revising

    I revised the first draft of my paper.

    I checked to make sure a reader would understand everything I had to say.

    I checked to make sure I met my goals and the assignment requirements for the paper.

    I made my essay or business plan better by adding, dropping, changing, or rearranging parts of my writing.

    I corrected spelling, capitalization, grammar, punctuation errors and paragraph separation.

    I reread my paper one last time before turning it in!
