heADCoAChMARkGuhNe (Chattanooga ‘84) is in his fifth year as a head coach, all at Chattanooga. NoTeSTokNoW• This is the fourth straight NCAA Regional appear-ance for the Mocs (4th all-time). In the previous three appearances, the Mocs stayed in the East Regional twice (2007, 2008) and the South Central (2009) once. The lone advancing year for UTC was last year when, like this year, it crossed the Mississippi River en route to Stillwater, Okla. (Karsten Creek G.C.).• The 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship is returning to one of the top amateur golf venues in the world as it is scheduled for June 1-6 at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., suburban Chattanooga. The Pete Dye-designed course hosted the 1996 National Championship as well as the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Mid-Amateur and Tennessee Amateur among its many events.

• The Mocs have 10 par or better rounds as a team with a low round of 277 in the second round at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto and Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiates. UTC has had two par or better rounds in three events.• It has been a Jekyll & Hyde kind of season for Chat-tanooga. The Mocs have been ranked as high as No. 1 and as low as 42. Chattanooga claimed the 2010 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate title by seven shots over No. 20 Clemson and 16 strokes over No. 19 Virginia while finishing second at the prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate (more to come), Brickyard Collegiate and Furman Intercollegiate. On the flip side, the Mocs have also struggled from time to time includ-ing a seventh-place ending at the Southern Conference Championship.•For the second straight year, UTC was ranked No. 1 in the country during the fall. This year Golfstat’s first ranking (9/23) had the Mocs at No. 1, while the Golf-week/Sagarin Ratings placed Chattanooga at No. 4. • Chattanooga opened the new Player Development Complex during the 2009-10 season. A co-operative effort between UTC, The First Tee of Chattanooga and the city, the Player Development Complex will provide a consistent practice home for the Chattanooga golf programs.

•Chattanooga claimed second place in the prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate at the Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga. The event was a “who’s-who” of college golf with two teams in the top five in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll (4 - Georgia, 5 - Alabama) and seven teams overall in the top 25 and five more receiving votes - which accounts for all 12 teams entering the event. Four of the schools (Georgia, Clemson, Georgia Tech & Alabama) finished 2008-09 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Ratings Index top 10, with eight overall in the top 25, including the Mocs at No. 25.• The Mocs did not have a drop score higher than 75 at the Carpet Capital. In fact, Chattanooga’s 54-hole drop score total of 225 would have finished third on two of the 12 teams and fourth on four teams, including champion Tennessee. Only Georgia Tech had all five players beat the Mocs’ drop score of 225.• StephanJaeger is the 2010 Southern Conference Player of the Year. He is ranked No. 50 nationally on Golfstat. He has three top five finishes with the best being a tie for third at the Carpet Capital. Top 25 in 10 of his 11 events and has recorded four or more birdies in a round 15 times this season. He tied for 13th with teammate (and current assistant) Ben Rickett leading the squad at the South Central Regional a year ago in Stillwater.• DerekRende is the only Mocs golfer to count in all 31 rounds this season. Rende leads team with a 72.0 Spring stroke average. His team-high six eagles ranks ninth nationally. Rende earned his fourth straight All-SoCon honor this season.• StevenFox made his collegiate debut at the Farm. Fox counted two of three rounds in shooting 75, 72 and 73 finishing tied for 24th at four-over par 220. He posted 11 birdies and 30 pars playing par or better on 75.9 percent of his holes. Fox later tied for medalist honors at the 2010 Furman Intercollegiate with 2009 U.S. Amateur finalist Ben Martin (Clemson). For his efforts, he was named SoCon Golfer of the Week (3/24) and also nabbed March Golfer of the Month in the league.• Rende posted a bogey-less round, the Mocs’ first of the season, in the first round at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville. He had two birdies to go with 16 pars. He set a new team high this season with 43 pars in the tournament, while tying a season best with just five bogeys for the event (Stephan Jaeger - Aldila Scenic City Inv.).

• Freshmen ChrisRobb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and BenjaminWeilguni (Langelois, Austria) are new arrivals for the Spring semester with both enroll-ing in January. Both redshirted to get acclimated to college and life in the states.• Chattanooga also signed three regional players during the two signing periods. In the Fall, the Mocs inked DavisBunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Mckeeha-nonRue (Athens, Tenn.). Bunn was one of three DI signees from Farragut High School joining Brandon Rogers (Tennessee) and Hayden Anderson (Georgia Southern). Bunn led the team to back-to-back state titles and had three junior wins in 2009. JacksonLockhart (Brownsboro, Ala.) who recently fired a final round 66 (-6) in finishing second in the Alabama High School Championship.
