RapauraSchoolCommunityRapauraSchoolisafullprimaryschoolsituatedamongstthevineyardsofMarlborough,northwestofBlenheim.Thewell-keptgroundsandrurallocationprovidestudentswithapleasantenvironmentinwhichtolearnandplay.Positiverelationshipsbetweenschoolstaff,studentsandthewidercommunityareevidentandtheBoardofTrusteesworksdiligentlytocultivateanopenandsharingrelationshipwithparents.Studentsandparentssaytheyappreciatethefamilyatmosphere,theprofessionalandcaringattitudeofthestaff,theleadershipopportunitiesthatarecreatedandprovideexperiencesofnewandrespectthetraditionsofthepast.TheschoolisstaffedbyaPrincipal,7teachers,3teacheraides,apart-timeofficeadministrator,apart-timefinanceofficer,apart-timelibraryassistantandacleaner/caretaker.AwiderangeofoutsideagenciessupporttheschoolandtheseincludeaPublicHealthNurse,AdvisoryServices,PropertyMaintenanceServicesandGroupSpecialEducationServices.Thereare3teachingblockswherestaffcollaborativelyteach,aStemroomandanadministrationarea.Theschoolhasanewlibraryspacethatprovidesanextraspaceforteachingandlearning.Theschoolalsohasstoragesheds,acaretaker’sshed,aPEshed,aswimmingpool,anallweatherturf,anadventureplayground,asandpit,areaforbikesandalargegrassedplayarea.Theschoolisthefocalpointforthecommunity.Specialfeaturesoftheschoolinclude: Supportiveschoolcommunity,BOTandstaff Passionateteachingandcoachingleadingtowellbalancedchildren. i. toprovideallstudentsinyears1-10withopportunitiestoachieveforsuccessinallareasoftheNationalCurriculum;
ii. givingprioritytostudentachievementinliteracyandnumeracy,especiallyinyears1-8;
iii. givingprioritytoregularqualityphysicalactivitythatdevelopsmovementskillsforallstudents,especiallyinyears1-6.
(b)througharangeofassessmentpractices,gatherinformationthatissufficientlycomprehensivetoenabletheprogressandachievementofstudentstobeevaluated;givingpriorityfirstto:
1. studentachievementinliteracyandnumeracy,especiallyinyears1-8;andthento

NAG2Eachboardoftrustees,withtheprincipalandteachingstaff,isrequiredto:(a)developastrategicplanwhichdocumentshowtheyaregivingeffecttotheNationalEducationGuidelinesthroughtheirpolicies,plansandprogrammes,includingthoseforcurriculum,assessmentandstaffprofessionaldevelopment;(b)maintainanon-goingprogrammeofself-reviewinrelationtotheabovepolicies,plansandprogrammes,includingevaluationofinformationonstudentachievement;and(c)reporttostudentsandtheirparentsontheachievementofindividualstudents,andtotheschool'scommunityontheachievementofstudentsasawholeandofgroups(identifiedthroughNAG1(c)above)includingtheachievementofMāoristudentsagainsttheplansandtargetsreferredtoin1(e)above.
NAG3Accordingtothelegislationonemploymentandpersonnelmatters,eachboardoftrusteesisrequiredinparticularto:(a)developandimplementpersonnelandindustrialpolicies,withinpolicyandproceduralframeworkssetbytheGovernmentfromtimetotime,whichpromotehighlevelsofstaffperformance,useeducationalresourceseffectivelyandrecognisetheneedsofstudents;and(b)beagoodemployerasdefinedintheStateSectorAct1988andcomplywiththeconditionscontainedinemploymentcontractsapplyingtoteachingandnon-teachingstaff.
NAG4Accordingtolegislationonfinancialandpropertymatters,eachboardoftrusteesisalsorequiredinparticularto:(a)allocatefundstoreflecttheschool'sprioritiesasstatedinthecharter;(b)monitorandcontrolschoolexpenditure,andensurethatannualaccountsarepreparedandauditedasrequiredbythePublicFinanceAct1989andtheEducationAct1989;and(c)complywiththenegotiatedconditionsofanycurrentassetmanagementagreement,andimplementamaintenanceprogrammetoensurethattheschool'sbuildingsandfacilitiesprovideasafe,healthylearningenvironmentforstudents.
NAG5Eachboardoftrusteesisalsorequiredto:(a)provideasafephysicalandemotionalenvironmentforstudents;(b)promotehealthyfoodandnutritionforallstudents;and(c)complyinfullwithanylegislationcurrentlyinforceorthatmaybedevelopedtoensurethesafetyofstudentsandemployees.
NAG6Eachboardoftrusteesisalsoexpectedtocomplywithallgenerallegislationconcerningrequirementssuchasattendance,thelengthoftheschoolday,andthelengthoftheschoolyear.
NAG7Eachboardoftrusteesisrequiredtocompleteanannualupdateoftheschoolcharterforeachschoolitadministers,andprovidetheSecretaryforEducationwithacopyoftheupdatedschoolcharterbefore1Marchoftherelevantyear.
