Theme or focus of images All of these photographs are pictures of landscapes by photographer Charlie Waite. For the photographer, tranquillity appears to be the main focus and theme of his work. They give off a relaxing vibe.Image 1 looks like it’s taken in autumn because of the sunset-type of colours (yellows, reds and oranges) and the leaves falling on the ground. Image 2 looks like it is taken in winter because of the dark colours and lighting used, no leaves on the trees, and it looks misty in the background which gives the impression it is cold and so associated with winter. Image 3 looks like it is taken in the spring/summer because of all the bright colours such as the green of the leaves, the sunlight reflecting onto the leaves and the blue sky in the background. Image 4 looks like it was taken early in the morning, around 7-9am, because of the light blue colours in the sky, the white colours also mixed with it and to me I get that vibe from it.

CompositionThe photographer looks like he is stood at a similar angle while he was taking the

photos, so I would say the photos were taken from head height. As the photographer decides where to stand, moves the camera, or zooms in on a scene, she selects what to include in the image. What did the photographer choose to include or exclude in the image? If she had zoomed out or stood further away, what additional information could we see? The composition of the photograph can also be altered later by cropping. How does the decision to frame only certain elements in the photograph affect the message conveyed by the photograph?

Techniques usedAll of these photos are taken outside and all of them except image 2 were taken on sunny days as you can tell by the amount of sunlight. This would mean the ISO ratings of these photos would be the normal 100, as they are taken outside on sunny days. Image 2 looks like the shutter speed may have been put higher, which is why there isn’t much light in the photo and has been edited to look darker. This means the shutter speed of this photo could be 1/250th and the aperture would have had to be adjusted to suit the photo, so the aperture would be f11.

Strengths & WeaknessesI like these images because of the relaxing and tranquil vibe they give off. They also feel intriguing and make you feel at ease and like you can imagine what else would be around in that picture without needing a longer or wider shot. These images are all very similar and on his website the variation is very small, so I think that there could have been more different photos of landscapes, because it just looks like the same place edited with different seasons.
