Dear Parents/Carers,

Presentation Day An invitation is extended to all parents and family members to share in the end of year celebrations tomorrow. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10am.

Students are requested to come in their ‘best’ school uniforms with girls wearing a dress if they own one. This year, the 2020 Student Executive will be announced and inducted into their leadership roles.

The staff and I hope to see you there to share in the achievements and successes of individual students and school.

Reports Last Monday all students received their reports. It provided a summary of the content covered in class and each child’s achievements in Terms 3 and 4.

Every school in NSW uses a five point assessment of achievement, with an A-E scale used at our school. The scale is explained in detail on the front cover of the report. Most students will receive a C which indicates that a student has a sound knowledge and is progressing at the required rate.

An effort scale from 5 to 1 is used to indicate the amount of effort a student in years 1 to 6 is putting into a subject, with 5 being the highest.

The A-E scale, the effort scale and the teacher comment need to be read together to get a sense of progress and effort. If required, every parent has the opportunity to speak with your child’s teacher, who can provide in-depth comments on your child’s

progress across all six key learning areas. Interviews are to be booked by contacting your child’s teacher.

Special thanks to our teachers who spent many hours writing the students’ reports.

Food For Thought… Did you know:

40% of Australian children have an unhealthy diet.

ADHD behaviours were significantly reduced after food additives E110, E129, E102, E104, E122, E124 were removed from the child’s diet.

60% of children taken off dairy products showed significant improvements in concentration and behaviour.

More than 90% of people diagnosed with depression, behavioural disorders, ADHD, autism and schizophrenia have low plasma zinc levels.

Hippocrates said: “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.” It’s worth thinking about!

Sporting News-Congratulations Boys!! Congratulations to our Yr 3 boys Nicholas, Yandi, Levi and Matthew, are just this weekend's match away from winning Northern NSW Football Federation's summer fast fives competition. With 14 games played, they have 12 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss with 101 goals scored, and 33 against, and sit 1 point clear of the opposition.

Congratulations boys on your amazing achievements and good luck this weekend.

First Day 2020 The first day for the teachers and office staff in 2020 is Tuesday 28 January.

Classes for students in years 1 to 6 in 2020, start on Wednesday 29 January 2020.

Kindergarten students starting in 2020 have Best Start interviews from Wednesday, 29 January until Friday 31 February with Mrs Taylor, Mrs Gill and Miss Darcy. Times have already been booked in with the

Office. All students in Kinder 2020 start on Monday 3 February. 2020 Swimming Carnival Our sensational swimming carnival will be held on Thursday 30 January next year. This is quite early in the year so student permission notes have already been sent home.

There are significant risk factors in organising a carnival so we would appreciate it if all notes and money could be returned by this Friday 13December.

“So Long Farewell….” This year many of our wonderful Yr 6 families finish their primary school journey and move on to high school.

We especially thank the following parents and grandparents who have supported us, provided transport, written numerous grants, cooked at many BBQ’s, organised Bingo Fun days and the list is endless: Nancy, Betti and Bill, Lee, Nick and Margaret and Natalie.

Holiday Reads! Often parents ask about great books for their children to read in the holidays. This list was recommended to me:

Last Newsletter for 2019 Next week will be the last Newsletter for 2019. It will contain a list of all of the award winners from the Presentation Day Assembly.

Have a fantastic week and I look forward to seeing you at one of our final end of year activities.

P & C News The canteen is now finished for the year, we will resume in the second week of school next year. Thank you to all of the volunteers for this year. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to have a canteen service at all.

Have you returned the note about helping in canteen in 2020? We still have some vacancies that will need to be filled to continue offering the same number of days next year.

The P&C in 2019

The P&C has been really busy during 2019, with lots of support from families and local businesses.

We’ve run a Bunnings BBQ, had 2 election BBQs, catered for 3 teacher training days, catered at the Sports Carnival, Netball Gala Day, Charlestown Cup and run the concert raffle, meal deals and the canteen and clothing pool.

We’ve organised the Mother’s Day Stall, Father’s Day breakfast, Grandparents Morning Tea and the Interrelate sessions.

We’ve raised money from local businesses, secured government grants and raised a donation for the Cancer Council. We’ve advocated for the community to council regarding local development, we’ve successfully lobbied the government to have the school zone extended along Milson St.

We’ve subsidised the swimming program, supported students participating in state and national level sports and in the last few weeks installed the new shade over the playground equipment, paid for the cricket nets to be renewed and purchased new PA equipment for the hall.

Thank you to all the families who have helped this year and supported all of the events.

It’s now time to recharge ready for a big year of events next year, including our biennial fete.

Happy holidays.
