After 17 years of service with the Department of Education as the School Administration Manager, Janelle has decided to take long service leave, leading to retirement. To Park Or Not To Park?? Some changes have been made to the No Parking sign at the cul-de-sac of Dickinson St. It is now a “Kiss and Ride” area. Please read the following definition from Lake Macquarie Council.

“Kiss and Ride” Zones are designed for your convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit, these zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers. These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. You're required to remain in, or within 3 metres of, your vehicle. Days and hours of operation may apply to some zones.”

To accompany this information, either Mrs Gill or I will be at the back gate to send your child to your car each afternoon. If you can remain in your car it is hoped that traffic will move smoothly in the “Kiss and Ride” area. Please don’t stop and pick up your child in the “No Stopping” part of the cul-de-sac.

Cyber Owls Parents, are you concerned about the amount of cyber bullying your child is being exposed to? Then come along to our Whitebridge Community of Schools parent session at Club Charlestown on Wednesday 31 July at 4pm. The presentation lasts 90 minutes and aims to give parents some cyber safety tips to strengthen your family’s cyber presence. Listen to the experts-Cliff Harris former leader of the NSW Police Cybercrime Command and his team! Thanks Whitebridge High!! Students in 2/3N have been enjoying the opportunity to work with Year 9 students from Whitebridge High School in PE lessons. The Year 9 students have an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and give back to the community while the Year 2 students have the opportunity to further development the fundamental movement skills and apply them to games and fitness activities. A win, win for all involved! Playgroup A reminder that our playgroup runs every Wednesday morning from 9.30-11.30am. We would love to see new faces! It is supported by many of our parents and is a friendly and supportive group in the local area. Playgroups offer an opportunity for children aged 0-5 years to meet, play and learn with other children and a chance for parents and carers to mix with others. Playgroup gives children an opportunity to have fun, make new friends and develop new skills through informal play. All playgroups are different, but the emphasis is on fun and friendship …come along and join us! Public Speaking During the past two weeks teachers have listened to many wonderful speeches from students in Years 2-6. Congratulations for your humour, clever topics and amazing presentations! Your speeches have been an absolute joy! Such great examples of quality work.

Debating News Once again our all girls Yr 6 debating team have been successful against Caves Beach PS. The topic was “Yr 5 kids and older need to work one afternoon each week”. We argued the negative view extremely well! Congratulations girls!!

Yr 5/6 Friday Fun Day Don’t forget to start saving your pocket money for the last day of term when Yr 5/6 students will be holding a mini fete between lunch and recess. All money raised will go towards the Y5/6 farewell. There is a lolly jar filled with yummy treats as a guessing competition. Two guesses for 50c, bring your money in any day at lunchtime between now and the end of term to have a guess. Do you catch the 708 Bus? If this is you, as of Monday 1 July, you will need to be up and at the bus stop 20 minutes earlier each morning to catch the bus. The 708 will arrive at school at 8:43am instead of the usual 9am. Going home the 708 bus will now leave school at 3:25pm, not 3:15pm, and will thus arrive at your bus stop 10 minutes later. National Collection of Data Our school is participating in the mandatory collection of nationally consistent data on school students with disability. We will be collecting information already available in the school about the support that is being provided to students with disability. The data collection will have no direct impact on your child and they will not be involved in any testing process. The NSW Department of Education and Communities will provide data to the Australian Government from all NSW public schools in such a way that no individual student or school will be able to be identified. In this way, we will ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all students. All information is protected by privacy laws which regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. Further information about the data collection can be found on the

Australian Government Department of Education website: http://education.gov.au/nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability Coffee and Chat This Thursday we will once again host our “Coffee and Chat” afternoon. Miss Jodi and I look forward to seeing you at 2:45pm. Have a wonderful week!

Mrs Jayne Thompson

5/6H Wow, this term is flying by. It’s week 9 already and 5/6H are busy preparing for Friday Fun Day, which is being held on the last day of term. We are collecting chocolates for our lob-a-choc stall, making posters and preparing our guessing competitions for the day. This term we have enjoyed participating in Orienteering for sport. We have improved in our ability to read maps and follow them to control points that are spread throughout the course. We have been preparing speeches for Public Speaking and our debating teams have had success against other schools. 5/6/have been completing artworks relating to Australia throughout the term. We have been very lucky to have a student from the University of Newcastle with us for four weeks. Miss Bayliss, is a talented dancer and singer and has been helping us with our concert item for next term. We wish Miss Bayliss every success in her career as a teacher. 5/6H will perform with Miss Bayliss at this week’s assembly. We hope to see you there.
