Principal Dimensions

In July 2007, Jan de Nul Group and La Naval Shipyard in Bilbao, Spain, signed an

agreement for the construction of a 30 500 m3 hopper dredger.

The new vessel is specially designed for operation in shallow or confined waters,

having a design draught of 11 m and a length of only 161.5 m. In the design much

attention has been given to efficient use of the installed power, resulting in low fuel

consumption and lower emissions. Two suction pipes, diameter 1 200 mm, equipped

with submerged dredge pumps of each 3 400 kW are installed. Double walled

electrically driven shore discharging dredge pumps with a total power of 15 000 kW

will enable discharging the load at a high rate, over long distances.

Scope of work VER Jan de Nul awarded the contract for the main part of the basic design to Vuyk

Engineering Rotterdam (VER), comprising the following scope of work:

Main construction drawings of the hull and superstructures, including all

foundations for the dredging equipment.

 FEM global hull strength analysis.

 Arrangement drawings (i.e. engine room).
