The View From the East

Greetings from The East, Unfortunately, it is my duty to inform you of the passing of one of our Brothers. Brother Andrew (Andy) L. Burgess passed to the Celestial Lodge above on September 16, 2018. Brother Andy was 83 years old, a 49-year Mason and was born on June 28, 1935. He was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on June 28, 1969 on his 34th birthday.

We had a fine turnout for Bonnie Blink Bingo Night. I want to thank Brother Dave Adams, Brother Jeff Westra and family, Brother Guy York and his wife JoAnn, Pam Kolscher and my wife Carol and Grandson Nathan for being there to assist with the folks.

On Saturday September 15, 2018 a special election was held at the Grand Lodge for the position of Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master. The result was the Brother and Sovereign Grand Inspector of Maryland Scottish Rite, Marlin L. Mills was elected to fill that position for the coming year.

Past Master’s Night is on SATURDAY October 20h and unfortunately none of our Brother that are working through the Degrees are ready to advance. So, we will just be having a regular meeting with a great meal and honor all Past Masters attending. The Holiday Season is coming fast and we will be once again assisting some of those in need in our community under the direction of Brothers Jay Brown and Bill McDonald. If you know of anyone that needs assistance let them know.

Sincerely & Fraternally Roy Neal Worshipful Master 2018

Looking to the West Greetings Brethren from the West, Welcome back! I hope you all had a great summer despite all of the wet weather that we have been having. Now that we have had a chance to relax over the summer, it is time again to stretch out our legs and minds and resume our Masonic endeavors. First off, I’d like to report that we had a wonderful time at Bonnie Blink for Bingo Night. The folks there all seemed to have a great time and were very appreciative of our support. Don’t forget that we have Past Master’s Night coming up on Saturday, October 20th. Be sure to come out for a good meal and, of course, to support your Past Masters. I look forward to seeing you in lodge.

Fraternally yours,

Jeff Westra, Senior Warden

From the South

Greetings from the South,

We are back! I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone again in the Lodge Come out and join your Brothers. Reminder that dinner is at 6:30 and the meetings are at 7:30. If you have any suggestions for meals please let us know (remember though that your Junior Warden can't boil water).

Sincerely & Fraternally Dave Adams, Junior Warden

From the Secretary’s Desk

Secretary, Brother Miles Cole is on vacation. I am sure he would approve of this article on his Secretary's Desk page.

"BROTHER” IS A TITLE:

In the usages of Freemasonry, “Brother” is neither a sentimental nor familiar form of address, but is a title – as much so as Worshipful, Very Worshipful, Very Reverend, Right Worshipful, or Most Worshipful, and should always be used as such. A man does not attend a Lodge Communication in his capacity as a private individual. He is not just Joe, or Bill, or John, but is there in his ca-pacity as a Mason. For this reason, one should never in open Lodge refer to “Bill B.”, but always to “Brother B.” in the same literal sense as any other office in the Lodge or Grand Lodge. Always address a Grand Lodge Officer at any Communication by his correct title and he in turn must show the same courtesy to other Grand Lodge Officers present as well as to the Worshipful Master and to the Brethren of the Lodge. This rule of etiquette should be punctiliously observed, no matter what ties of family or friendship may exist.

Sick, Shuts Ins & Departures Please join us in extending our sympathy to the family of Brother Andrew L. Burgess who passed to the Celestial Lodge Above on September 16, 2018. Brother Andy was a 49-year Master Mason and was 83 years old. If you know of any Charity Lodge Brother that could use a visit contact the Worshipful Master or P.M. John Lambert. For any Pastoral Service that is needed please contact our Chaplain Brother Rev. Cliff Kelbaugh at (301) 802-9213

Fruit Basket: Chairman John Lambert P.M.

Hello Brethren, To date we have spent approximately $1,250 of the $3,000.00 budget. Although we didn’t reach our goals of completing the chairlift that goes upstairs or strip/wax the basement floors, we finally figured why the second chairlift wouldn’t work and have an estimate in hand to make the repairs. We are also working on some asphalt improvements along Middletown Road to prevent the storm water from coming right down the sidewalk and going in the side door. Feel free to make any suggestions for projects or building concerns that we should address.

Sincerely & Fraternally Keith Chesla Co-Chairman

Brethren, Fortunately there are no new fruit basket deliveries to report this month. Sincerely & Fraternally

John Lambert Past Master

Raffle: Co—Chairs Dave Adams & James Ambrose

Brethren, Nothing new to report. As always, we welcome your ideas and suggestions on not only raffle ideas, but also ways we can bring income to the Lodge.
