awarded by preservation experts, validates that this building is a Valley treasure, worth the time, effort and money to save. This plaque will be placed on the building in the spring. Thanks to solid Yankee craftsmanship, it has survived since 1890 but it needs a complete “make over.” As a temporary measure, we recently installed a 30’ x 60’

For the past fourteen months, the Bartlett Historical Society has been actively working on a campaign to save the historic St. Joseph Church building in Bartlett from the ravages of time. Our goal is to renovate the structure and reopen it as the Bartlett Historical Society Museum. Our historical society has numerous artifacts that tell the story of Bartlett’s history but we need a place to display them for all to see. The St. Joseph Church building is the perfect location. The building affords us space for revolving displays of artifacts, allows us to establish capabilities for genealogical research, gives us space for presentations and becomes the headquarters for the Bartlett Historical Society. Recently, the NH Preservation Alliance designated the St. Joseph Church building one of their 2017 Seven to Save buildings. This designation,

tarpaulin to prevent further damage from water infiltration. Thanks go to Bill Duggan and his crew for their expertise in doing this work. To be usable again, the building needs a roof to basement renovation. To accomplish this renovation, we ask for your financial support to our capital campaign. Every dollar counts in this campaign to bring this building back to life. If you would like to help us in our capital campaign to raise the funds to save this historic building, please review the information on our website – www.BartlettHistory.org, write to us at P.O. Box 514, Bartlett, NH 03812 or connect with Phil Franklin by email at [email protected] or Norm Head by email at [email protected]. We thank you for your support.

Winter Film Series: Winter Film Series: Freedom Library’s 12th Annual Winter Film Series continues at 4pm with the movie, "The Band’s Visit." The free series consists of six films shown on Sundays in January, February and March. After the movie we have a simple soup supper for those who wish to stay for a meal and a chance to discuss the film. An Egyptian Police Band on its way to play at an opening of an Arab Cultural Institute gets stranded in a bleak little desert town in Israel after taking the wrong bus. The owner of the one dreary café informs the bandleader that not only is there no Cultural Institute opening, there is no culture, period. There’s not even a hotel, for that matter, so the band members have to depend on the kindness of strangers while they wait for the bus to arrive the next day. There is little plot in this charming movie, but the stories of some of these wonderful characters quietly unfold, especially those of Tewfiq, the bandleader, and

Dina, the Café owner. In a smart, funny and eloquent film about ordinary Arabs and Israelis (speaking English), the lives, hopes and disappointments of these characters are shown without any intrusion of political hostility. ” Soup-makers are needed! We will have a signup sheet at the front desk for volunteers to make soup and bread but for this first movie, please call Elizabeth at 539-5176.
