Conway Historical Society’s monthly program begins with a Potluck Dinner at 6pm. The meeting and presentation starts at 7pm. This evening’s program is “Historical Perspectives on Death & Dying”, with Dr. Marianne Jackson. This hour-long presentation uses a historical perspective to help participants understand why we feel awkward and unprepared. Only two generations past, there were no decisions to be made. People simply died. Today we not only have life saving measures but life sustaining interventions to choose from at the end of our lives. Our parents and their parents cannot provide us the language and role models for these conversations. With this context in mind, we describe available resources that help families explore and express the individual values that guide potential decisions and help attendees comfortably engage their families in meaningful conversations about end-of-life choices. All CHS programs are free and open to the public at the Salyards Center for the Arts, in Conway Village.
