Child Abuse Preven on Month

DID YOU KNOW? Each of us, as members of our Catholic community, can contribute to

the healing of those harmed by abuse by remembering survivors in our

prayers. Be mindful that Jesus’ resurrec on transforms all who believe.

We as church embrace our shared responsibility to protect our chil-

dren and vulnerable adults, and to ensure that they grow up knowing

they are safe and loved. In solidarity with those vic ms who have en-

dured the pain of abuse, we re-dedicate ourselves to their healing by

increasing our awareness and understanding, by contribu ng to the

safe environment and prac ces of our church, and by extending our

efforts out into the world. For specific informa on on how you can

make the world a safer place for children and vulnerable adults, visit:

A Leisurely Walk thru the Catechism

Is a 44-program series of hour-long radio shows that

airs on WQOP radio, 1460 am, at 11:00 am Saturdays.

It is hosted by Gerry Schmidt of this parish. Using a

dic"onary and 3 thesauruses he goes thru the cate-

chism and explains unfamiliar words to make it more

understandable. Many saints have said, "The more

you know about God, the more you will love God", and

we all want that.

CATECHISM CORNER

The risen Christ does not reveal

Himself to the world, but to His

disciples, “to those who came

up with Him from Galilee to

Jerusalem, who are now His witnesses to the people.”

Peace be with you.

Over the past few weeks we have heard about the

Resurrec#on of Jesus. The disciples experienced the pleasure of

seeing the Lord right there in front of them. Just try to image

how they felt when they had seen the Lord and heard him say

“Peace be with you.” They had to have a wondrous sense of joy

and excitement but also had to recall a feeling of shame and

guilt as they had abandoned Jesus during his Passion. We too

feel that shameful and guilty feeling because we have aban-

doned Jesus when we sin. When we sin we place something in

place of or above Jesus. The sin has become more important

than Jesus. Feeling shameful also allows us to turn to Jesus for

his love, mercy and forgiveness. It is our #me for repentance

and healing. Feeling guilty and shameful prompts us to seek

Jesus and to get back on the right path. We may dri! and now

can come back.

Jesus did not want the disciples to keep feeling guilty

or be ashamed and he does not want us to feel that way either.

This is why He said the words “Peace be with you” and these

words offer us so much comfort and reassurance. Just as the

disciples were forgiven for abandoning Jesus, so are we. Jesus

shows us his love, mercy and forgiveness to all of us regardless

of what we have done. He accepts us again even though we

have sinned and abandoned him. Jesus wants us to come back

to him. When we sin, we subsequently realize what we have

done and we repent. When we repent, we express sorrow for

our sins and make the commitment to do penance, amend our

lives and avoid the occasions of sin. We put Jesus first as we

are sorry for our sins and wish to be back with Jesus.

May Jesus give us the strength to overcome tempta-

#on, the desire to repent and to seek forgiveness and be ab-

solved of our sins by going to the Sacrament of Reconcilia#on

to mend our broken rela#onship with him. And may we always

cherish the words as first spoken to the disciples by Jesus-

“Peace be with you.”

Thank You Corner
