Chardham Yatra 2013

About Chardham Char Dham is referred to the Hindu religious sites in Uttarakhand state of India. These are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath.

Traditionally Chardham yatra starts from west towards the east.Thus the Yatra proceeds in the order of Yamunotri, then Gangotri then to Kedarnath and finally to Badrinath.

Yamunotri Shrine is dedicated to GodessYamuna,Gangotri to Godess Ganga,Kedarnath to Lord Shiva and Badrinath to Lord Vishnu.

Yamunotri

The holy shrine of Yamunotri is situated at a mean elevation of approximately 3,235 m. above sea level.The route towards Yamunotri is filled with scenic beauty of Himalayas.From a place known as Dharasu,the road bifurcates and while one road goes towards Gangotri,the other proceeds towards Yamunotri.

One can proceed by car/bus upto Janaki Chatti from where there is a approximately 6 kms trek to Yamunotri Shrine.

Gangotri

At a distance of about 90 kms ahead of Uttarkashi lies the beautiful shrine of Gangotri.Gangotri is at a mean altitude of about 3048 mtrs above sea level.

The shrine was constructed in the 18th centuary by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa and is situated on the left bank of river Bhagirathi

Kedarnath

One among the revered 12 Jyotirlings of Lord Shiva,Kedarnath Shrine stands majestically at an altitude of 3584 Mtrs above sea level.

The present shrine was constructed in the 8th centuary by the Adi Shankracharya and stand with the backdrop of lofty snow capped peaks.

Badrinath

Flanked on the two sides by the majestic Nar and Narayan mountains with the majestic Neelkanth Peak in the background,Badrinath Shrine is among the holiest of Hindu Shrines in the world.

The shrine is located at a mean altitude of about 3133 Mtrs above sea level
