Poppy

Page 3: Character profiles

Poppy is the main protagonist in our trailer. She is 11 years old and comes across as quite shy and timid. She lives in the middle of Tunbridge Wells in a quiet home. She is very girly (always wearing pink) and enjoys receiving presents from her mum when she has enough money. There is an example of this in our trailer when her mum gives her the doll. Poppy doesn’t have any siblings so the doll instantly becomes her new best friend and there isn’t a moment of the day that they are not together. Towards the end of the trailer Poppy’s true character comes out when she begins to act brave and stand up for herself as she throws the doll away.

The Doll

Page 5: Character profiles

The doll is another main protagonist of our trailer; as the whole trailer and film is based around what she does to the house and the family. The doll is a toy usually targeted at girls which is why we made this our target audience. The doll wears a little blue and pink dress which comes across as very girly. She has a very innocent look about her giving the audience the wrong impression that she couldn’t do anything wrong. This also helps to make it seem more like a true story and as if it could happen to anyone.

Mum

Page 7: Character profiles

The mums name is Maria; this is not told to the audience in the trailer. She is a stay at home mum who tries to give the best possible for Poppy as a result of her being an only child. She often wants to treat her with presents as she knows she can get quite lonely without having any siblings and not many friends; which is where the doll comes in. She becomes possessed in the trailer so comes across as scary to the audience. Seeing this happen to Poppy as her mum, who is her only real company, is turning against her, could be quite upsetting for the audience and could create suspense in what’s going to happen. At the end of the trailer the audience doesn’t find out what happened to the mum making them want to go see the film.
