GRAMMAR

1. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow it:

From space, our earth looks like a blue ball. Since water covers most of the earth’s surface blue is the colour we

see most. The continents look brown, floating in the huge blue sea. White clouds cover the earth like a light

blanket. Even though spaceships have travelled to the moon, people cannot visit it without special suits. The

moon has no air and water. Plants and animals cannot live there. Astronauts first landed on the moon in 1969.

After that, there were six more trips to the moon. The sun is the closest star to the earth. The sun looks very big

because it is so close, but it is just a medium sized star. Billions of faraway stars are much bigger than our sun.

Each day, we learn more about our earth, the moon, and the sun.

Questions:

(i) Why does the earth appear blue from space?

__________________________________________________________________________________

(ii) Why is life not possible on the moon?

__________________________________________________________________________________

(iii) When did astronauts first land on the moon?

(iv) Which is the closest star to the earth?

__________________________________________________________________________________

(v) How do the continents look like from space?

__________________________________________________________________________________

(vi) What do the astronauts wear when they go to the moon?
