The duty of TIC is giving information and promoting to the tourist about tourism

Meanwhile the efforts of TIC to increase tourism in Solo is to provide Solo’s map,

also provides information about tour guide, and rent car.
The location of TIC is on Brigjend Slamet Riyadi Street No. 1 Graha Solo

in central city and easy to be achieved by public transportation. TIC opens from
Monday to Saturday at 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Every tourists visited have to fill the
guess book which contained name, address, email and signature.
C. Job Training Activities in Sinergi Event’s Tourist Information Center (TIC)
The writer started job training from April 2 to May 31, 2014. The writer
worked in TIC’s Sinergi Event as staff of TIC. The duty of writer is giving
information about Solo and surrounding to the both domestic and foreign tourists.
The working hours started from Monday to Saturday at 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The activities of the writer during the job training are:
17
a) Activities as a TIC staff
As a staff at TIC, I had some assignments. First, I had to welcome the
guest who came to TIC and then offer help to the tourist. Second, I also gave
information to the tourist about Solo. This was done by giving a map of Solo,
leaflets and annual calendar event, so that tourists got information about:
tourism places, airport, bus station, money changer, hospital, hotel, bank and
others. Third, I also hat to ask tourists to fill the guest book with their names,
addresses or e-mails and signatures.
The numbers of tourists who came to TIC's Sinergi Event were 65
tourists: 39 domestic and 26 foreign tourists. The numbers of tourists who
came to TIC’s Sinergi Event cannot be predicted weekly. Sometimes in a day
there were about five tourists or none at all.
Handling foreign tourists who came to the TIC was not easy because
some of the tourists were from different countries and had different accents of
English such as: France, United States, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Poland,
Netherlands, and Russia.
I had some problems when I became TIC staff ware:
1) Tourism places
First, I did not know about the tourism places around
Solo, transportation to reach tourism places, culinary spot and
18
places of exhibition (puppet, people puppet and ketoprak). For
example, there a tourist who wants to go to Mangkunegaran,
but I did not really know about the venue. The first step, I did
asking the tourist of where they wanted to go. Then I requested
for their permission to look for the information from other the
staffs in the office. After that, I gave information needed by the
tourist.
2) Dialect
I had experienced about miscommunication of dialect
when the tourist came to TIC. For example, she asked about
"puppet = pɅpIt" but she spoke "pepIt" not "pɅpIt" and it
made me feel confused. Therefore, as the TIC staff that
provides information to both domestic and foreign tourists, the
staff have to be smart in order to keep communicating
especially to the tourist with different dialect, so the tourists
are not disappointed. The way used in facing the tourist with
different dialect were asking the key word or using gesture of
body.
3) Language
I had experienced when the tourist came from Japan
named Mr. Horiuchi. He could not speak English but he could
write English a little. In order to keep communication to the
19
tourist who could not speak English, I was trying to understand
what he means and still look friendly. I used gesture of body or
drawing of the destination (building or transportation)
b) Marketing and relationship staff
Marketing and relationship staff is a people who set or handle
company marketing event and company products. The role of the writer was
helping the marketing and relationship staff in inviting the sponsorships and
partnerships. This role is started from sending email to sponsorships and
partnerships, sending letter invitation by the post office and distributing the
invitation letter to the guests of that event.
Sending email and letter invitation addressed to sponsorships and
partnerships. The sponsorships and partnerships were whose wants to join in
the national exhibition in order to celebrate "9th Java Expo 2014 the spirit of
creation".
The sponsorships and partnerships were: Departments / Government

Industry, Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of tourism and creative economy
and others), the province government/local government (department of

culture tourism and others), government and private associations (Dekranasda,
ASEPHI, ASMINDO, AWAPI, KADIN, ASITA, PHRI and others), Badan
