CONTENTSToyota Motor Corporation is one of the world's leading automakers, offering a full range of models, from minivehicles to large trucks. Global sales of its Toyota and Lexus brands, combined with those of Daihatsu and Hino, totaled 7.52 million units (retail basis) in the 2004 calendar year. Besides its own 12 plants and a number of manufacturing subsidiaries and affiliates in Japan, Toyota has 51 manufacturing companies in 26 countries and regions, which produce Lexus-and Toyota-brand vehicles and components. As of March 2004, Toyota and employs about 264,000 people worldwide (on a consolidated basis), and markets vehicles in more than 170 countries and locations.
Toyota's automotive business, including sales finance, accounts for more than 90% of the company's total sales, which came to a consolidated 17.29 trillion in the fiscal year to March 2004. Its diversified operations include telecommunications and prefabricated housing.
Toyota continues to pursue growth in unison with society and believes a harmonious relationship with the enviroment, the global economy, local communities and its stakeholders is the key to achieving long-term, stable growth. As a result, it is investing aggressively in next-generation technologies to develop automobiles that are greener, safer and more fun to drive.
The Toyota Production System has become the basis for highly efficient " lean"manufacturing in industries worldwide. To guide the continuing evolution of Toyota'sworldwide operations, Toyota announced its "Global Vision 2010". Building on the principles set out in its "Toyota Way 2001" booklet, "Global Vision 2010" outlines the management direction and target toward which all employees of Toyota and the Toyota Group should strive in the 21st century.
1) Statistics in this publication are based on facts and figures from January 1, 2004 to December 31,
2004 (except where otherwise noted).
2) Figures on P3 to P82 are unconsolidated figures for Toyota Motor Corporation.
3) As for p.1, 3~5 and 77~82, figures for “overseas production” indicate “ local production” , i.e. the
number of vehicles that were manufactured with the value of parts imported from Japan (F.O.B.
price) less than 60% the total value of the parts in the vehicle. As for p.77~82, the numbers in
parentheses refer to the number of vehicles produced on a line-off base in 2004.
4) Figures for “domestic production” include the number of CKD vehicles.
5) As for p.36, 40, 44, 49, 53, 57 and 61, figures in the “2004 vehicle and engine production” column
refer to the number of vehicles produced on a line-off base in 2004. The numbers in parentheses
indicate “ local production” , i.e. the number of vehicles that were manufactured with the value of
parts imported from Japan (F.O.B. price) less than 60% of the total value of the parts in the vehicle.
Plants that produce engines using engine blocks and heads from other plants do not count such
engines in their engine production numbers.

The U.S. automobile market in 2004 was characterized by strong sales spurred by low interest rates and tax cuts and was supported by high-value incentives from the Big Three. Sales volume surpassed the previous year's level for the first time since 2000, reaching 16.9 million vehicles, the fourth highest volume ever. Japanese vehicles accounted for more than 30% of the market for the first time. The market share of the Big Three, meanwhile, fell below 60% for the first time. Automobile sales in Canada were 1.534 million vehicles, down 4% from the previous year. This is the second consecutive annual decline since a record high was reached in 2002.
Toyota's sales in North America during 2004 came to 2.292 million vehicles. Toyota sold 2.060 million vehicles in the United States, surpassing the 2 million mark for the first time and marking the ninth consecutive annual increase. Toyota's share of the market grew to 12.2%.
Toyota became the first import manufacturer to sell more than 2 million vehicles in the U.S.
Toyota Division vehicles were the best-selling passenger cars for the second consecutive year.
The Camry was the best-selling passenger car in the U.S. for the third consecutive year.
The Lexus Division retained its title as the best selling luxury brand in the U.S. for the fifth consecutive year.
The Prius was named the North American Car of the Year. The Tacoma was named the Motor Trend Truck of the Year. In February, NUMMI celebrated its 20th year of operations. In April, production of A/T gears commenced at TMMWV. In September, production of Tacoma pick-up truck beds began at TMMBC (Mexico). Toyota sold 170,000 vehicles in Canada, the third consecutive record high. Toyota's share was 11.1%, surpassing the 11% mark for the first time. Toyota Division vehicles remained the top-selling passenger cars by brand for the third consecutive year. Toyota's sales in Puerto Rico came to 38,000 vehicles, marking an all-time high for the second consecutive year. Toyota has held the top share in the market since 1998 for seven consecutive years. Toyota also achieved a new record high in Mexico, selling 24,000 vehicles, an increase of 43% from 2003. Toyota's share of the market grew by 1.2%.
In September, TMMAL announced plans to boost its annual engine production capacity. (Annual engine capacity is to increase from the current 120,000 units to 400,000 units by the end of 2006.)

The European automotive market-the EU plus Switzerland, Norway, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia-came to 17.6 million units, 3% higher than the previous year. Among the five biggest markets in Europe, Germany, France, Italy and Spain recorded growth over the previous year, with Spain recording its third year of expansion thanks to a healthier economic situation than in other countries.
Toyota posted its eighth straight annual sales record by selling 916,000 vehicles, up by 10% from 2003, with a market share of 4.9%, or an increase of 0.1%. The Yaris sold 226,000 units, which was its sixth consecutive sales record after its launch in 1999, and renewed its position as the best-selling Toyota model in Europe. The new Avensis sold 134,300, or 4% more than in the previous year. Toyota kept its No.1 position in Finland, Norway and Greece in terms of the total market for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Toyota was the No.1 Japanese brand in terms of market share in all markets except for Spain. In May, Toyota announced that Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. (TMUK), which makes the Corolla and Avensis, will increase production capacity from 220,000 units to 285,000 units. In May, Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) increased its annual production capacity from 184,000 to 210,000 Yaris models, adding 500 new employees. In December, PSA Peugeot Citro?n and Toyota revealed the styling of three jointly developed cars that were to begin rolling off the line at Toyota Peugeot Citro?n Automobile (TPCA) in Kolin, Czech Republic in 2005. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 units-200,000 for Peugeot and Citro?n vehicles and 100,000 for Toyota vehicles. The TPCA Toyota-brand car is called the Aygo.

Business outline (Parts supply organization)
5-1. Parts supply / after-sales service
Toyota is implementing the " just-in-time" concept, one of the main elements of the Toyota Production System, to improve parts distribution between TMC and its distributors and dealers. Toyota established TACTI Corporation jointly with Denso and Aisin in April 1996. TACTI Corp. procures and sells after-market auto parts and accessories separately from genuine Toyota parts across the Japanese market through its "jms" car service and accessories chain. TMC is making every effort to enhance its after-sales service organization and activities in every country and improve technical and customer handling skills through the Toyota Service Human Resources Development System.

Promotion of Widespread Adoption of Low-Emission Vehicles
REDUCING EXHAUST EMISSIONS
In FY2003, Toyota increased the number of models that meet the 2000 Exhaust Emissions Standards in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Approval System for Low-Emission Vehicles to 181 models. Together with the models that newly meet the 2005 Exhaust Emissions Standards, this accounts for 99% of total production. The number of vehicle series that achieved an exhaust emission level 75% lower than the 2000 Exhaust Emissions Standards (Ultra Low-Emission Vehicle level) reached 59.8% of total production.

Achieving Zero Landfill Waste throughout the Entire Company, including Non-production Bases
REDUCING WASTE
All Toyota plants have continued to maintain zero landfill waste*, a goal first achieved in December 2000. In FY2003, Toyota took actions toward achieving zero landfill waste at its 14 non-production sites, such as its production engineering divisions, logistics centers, the Head Office administration building and hospital and clinics. By taking steps such as sorting materials such as metals, glass and plastic generated by production engineering divisions, Toyota achieved zero landfill waste at its 14 non-production bases, in December.

Meet the entertainersFive elements of Toyota Group's vision for a future society
Music Playing robots and DJ robotToyota Partner Robots play trumpet, tuba, horn and drums, demonstrating remarkable dexterity with their fi nely articulated robotic hands, fi ngers and lips. The DJ robot will carry on a dialogue with the emcee.
i-foot robotThis mountable walking robot wilt offer three-dimensional mobility, including the ability to navigate staircases. The ability to mount and dismount comfortably was of primary consideration in the design of the bird-like legs, which bend toward the rear. The wrap-around egg-shaped design of the i-foot imparts feelings of safety and reliability, expressing our dream of future three-dimensional mobility. A joystick is used for navigation.
i-unit - ultra-compact personal mobilityThe i-unit is a form of personal mobility that seeks to attain a greater balance of meeting individuals' wishes to enjoy freedom of movement, harmony with society, and harmony with our planet' s natural environment. It can shift between an upright low-speed mode and a reclining high-speed mode, and even perform on-the-spot turns. Other features include drive-by-wire technology and a personalized recognition
system for customized information, music and body color to match individual preferences.
