INTRODUCTION

Once a King wanted to know the right answers of his three questions. a. What is the right time to begin a thing? b. Which people should he consult for guidance? c. What is the most important thing for him to do? Many wise men tried their tuck one said that the king should prepare a timetable and follow it rigidly another said it was impossible to fix the right time in advance. In answer to the second question, they gave importance to minister, priest, doctor or soldiers to the third question, they replied that science, fighting and religions! worship were the most important things. The ring was not satisfied, so he did not reward to anyone, finally the king decided to seek the advice of a hermit who lived alone in the forest. The hermit known for his wisdom did not go out of the forest, secondly, he met only common people. Therefore,- the king went to him in plain clothes and on foot. He left his horse and his bodyguards behind. The hermit was digging beds in front of his cottage. He listened to king’s question but gave no answer. The king took the spade from the tired hermit and began to dig the beds himself. the sunset, before the king left the place, a man came running to the voltage.

Ans. The wise men answer my question, but I was not satisfied with their answers. One day I

decided to go and meet the hermit who lived in the forest, I was in a common man’s clothes.

And I left my horse as well as body uard at some distance from the hut. I went to see the hermit

done and on foot. I found the wise man digging the ground in front of his hut. He was old weak.

He looked tired. He was breathing heavily. I went up to meet him and put to him my three

bearded man come running towards us. He was bleeding profusely. I washed his wound and

bandaged it. Being tired I also feel asleep. Next morning I got the answer to my questions. Now

said the hermit at moment is the most important person, to do that man good is one’s most

important business.

Ans.One day I was digging in my garden. A man in ordinary clothes comes to see me. I knew he

was the king. I greeted him. He put to me three question. He was anxious to get answer those

question after an hour or so. Just then a beaded man come running towards us. We

Poem - 1 THE SQUIRREL

SUMMARY

The poem written by Bowers Armstrong is a complete description of a squirrel. The poet says that the tail of the squirrel is shaped as a question mark and it has a great overcoat on its body. It eats nuts and plays with children.

INTRODUCTION

Mirdu is a young girl growing up in Madras (now called Chennai) with Tapi, her grandmother and Thatha, her grandfather. One afternoon Tapi takes her to Aunt RukkuMannis house to meet her cousins Lalli, Ravi and Meena. When they reach there, Mirdue takes off her slippers near a pair of large black one on which one could see the clear marks of every toe on the front part of each slipper. him milk and asked him to keep the tumbler back Rani told her that he would wash it himself

after finishing the milk. And this was how he got the milk for the kitten. Then he said that kitten

ancestors was the pal lava’s Lion, the Mahabalipuram Rishi — cat which was the emblem of the

pallavadymosty he said that Mahabalipuram Rishi — cat was the descendants of cat — goddess

of Egypt. Later on when the music teacher comes but to leave he finds his chappals missing. On

being enquired he comes to know the truth. The mother, Paati gets upset on the deed and

scolds Ravi she guess Gopu Mama almost new chappals to the teacher the music teacher wears

them and leaves calling the thought of Gopu Mama as he was he comes home. She says what

Mama going to say when she would tell him that she has given her chappals to the music

teacher.

CHAPTER - 3 GOPATJ AND THE HILSA – FISH

INTRODUCTION

This is the comic picture story of an intelligent court Gopal and hilsa — fish. In the hilsa fish

season, everyone is in the market at neighborhood, and even in the king’s court speaks

about the hilsa — fish. The king gets angry at it and challenge Gopal, to buy a hilsa and to lring

it in the court without letting anybody on the way talk or ask about it from him. Gopal accepts

the challenge. A few days later, he leaves his face half - shaved, ash on his face and wearing

Quse.1 The last two lines of the poem are not prohibitions or instruction. What is the adult

now asking the child to do? Do you think poet is suggesting that is unreasonable? Why?

Ans. In the last two lines, the adults are asking the child to think himself and to be independent

in taking decision some matters the adults are asking to be firm and determined which is

unseasonable because they themselves don’t allow the child to take any decision. They

always tell him what to do or what not to do, so they ask the child to make up his mind is surly

unreasonable.

Ans. The grown up say such kind of king to their children in order to teach them good children

in order to teach them good manners, etiquettes and how to behave in public. It is important to
