ForceDefinition: A force is a push or pull

Example: Pushing a door open Pulling a wagon

NewtonsDefinition: units used for force

Example: 5N

Net ForceDefinition: the force that results from combining all the forces on an object.

Ex. The net force during a tug of war game 5N right – 3 N left= 2 N right

When 2 forces are in the same direction

Explanation: When two forces are in the same direction, you should ADD them together!

Example: 2 N south + 4 N south = 6N south

When 2 forces are in the different directions

Explanation: When two forces are in opposite directions, you SUBTRACT them.

Example: 12N North – 5 N South = 7N North

Balanced ForcesExplanation: Balanced forces occur when the forces applied to an object produce a net force of zero. NO change of movement.

Example: Sitting in a chair (60N down, 60 N up= 0 net force)

Unbalanced ForcesExplanation: Unbalanced forces occur when the net force on an object is greater than zero and the object changes its position.

Example:pushing a box and it slides 2 m.
