Drive vehicle to scene in safe, timely, lawful manner

Use protective equipment

Interact with first responders

Responsibilities of EMT-I

Control scene, ensure safety, regulate access

Determine needs, communicate to dispatch, request supportive agencies as needed

Use basic tools and techniques to gain access to and extricate entrapped patients

Establish rapport with patients, maintain their confidentiality, shield from onlookers

Responsibilities of EMT-I Treat patients with dignity, compassion, and

respect

Rapidly assess and manage life threats

Perform a careful patient assessment, recognize nature and severity of the event, determine requirements for emergency medical care
