August 2017 Changing With Today President’s Message Columbia County Association for Home and Community Education August 2018 Greetings: Monsters and Mobsters! I visited Shaker’s Cigar Bar with my family in Milwaukee's Walker's Point warehouse district. Shaker’s was founded in 1986 and the atmosphere is a blend of Chicago and San Francisco. Many people were there buying cigars. They have two ghost beers on tap and a menu with many different items to choose from. The building was originally built in 1894. It served as the Schlitz Brewery cooperage house for many years. In 1922 it was sold to be- come the newest speakeasy in Milwaukee, as well as a "soda distribu- tion company" owned by Al Capone. This was during the prohibition period, and he was actually running liquor under the disguise as a soda company. Shaker’s has an authentic tin ceiling which came from a Plankinton mansion. The building was built on top of a ceme- tery. It is said to be haunted, and if you believe in ghosts and the paranormal, you might enjoy sleeping over in the "Haunted Penthouse.” Shaker’s was also the location site for the speakeasy and office scenes in the movie Dillinger . Our Uber ride home was a Trivia Cash Cab. We had a chance to win $100,000 (the candy bar). Oh, and we did win! Splash of Colors

Seventy five matters my birthday cycles anew

A bright and sunny day so I washed clothes

Hung them on the line sure theyrsquod dry by night

Blue jeans red T-shirt yellow pajamas green socks

Waving on the line dancing in the sun bright and clean

My husband went to town for supplies home by noon

Carrying a package to the house I continued the wash

Lunchtime came and I fixed a cold meat sandwich then

turning around there on the counter a surprise bouquet

Splash of colors red yellow pink green violet and blue
